Elbow-Length Fingerless Glove

By Johanne Deleeuw Materials used: 32" 2.5mm needles for Magic Loop Method 350 yards of fingering weight yarn - I used Skein Merino Cashmere Fingering Abbreviations: k-knit k2tog - knit two stitches together ktfb - knit through front and back look (increase from 1 stitch to 2 stitches) Cast on 72 stitches. Using Magic Loop, divide so that there are 36 stitches on each of 2 needles. Join for working in the round. Mark beginning of round. Knit 12 rounds in 2x2 rib (\*k2, p2\* repeat to end of round) Continue in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures 2 inches from cast on edge. Next round: k2tog, knit to end of needle. Beginning of second needle, k2tog, continue to end of round. 2 stitches decreased (70 stitches total) Knit to 3" from cast on. Decrease to stitches in same method as above. (68 stitches total). Continue to make decreases every inch until the piece measures 9", or piece has been decreased to 56 stitches total. Knit 1 more inch, to 10" from cast on edge. Thumb Gusset - Right Glove: k2 stitches, place maker, k2, place marker, knit to end of round. k2, slip marker, ktfb, ktfb, slip marker, knit to end of round. 1. knit 1 round 2. k to first marker, slip marker, ktfb, k to 1 stitch before next marker, ktfb, slip marker, knit to end of round. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are 24 stitches between the markers. Knit two rounds Divide for thumb:er remoye marker nlace next 24 stitches on waste yarn remove. second marker cast on 2 stitcheselusethe backwards loop methsd knit to end of Knit to first marker, remove marker, place next 24 stitches on waste yarn, remove second marker, cast on 2 stitches (I use the backwards loop method), knit to end of round (56 stitches on needles, 24 stitches on waste yarn) p eunea) iee Knit in stockinette until piece measures 2 inches from thumb gusset (where you cast on the 2 new stitches). Knit 5 rounds in 2x2 rib. Cast off in pattern.

Thumb:

Place 24 stitches back on needles. Re-join yarn. Pick up 4 stitches across the edge where you cast on new stitches for the hand - 28 stitches total. Next round, when you get to the picked up stitches, decrease from 4 to 2 (k2tog twice with the picked up stitches) - 26 stitches total. Next round, do the same again, decreasing to 24 stitches total. Knit thumb in stockinette until it measures 1 14 inches from the inside (where you picked up the 4 stitches). Purl one round. Bind of thumb in purl. For Left Glove, follow the same instructions except for the thumb gusset, which is knit as follows: Thumb Gusset- Left Glove: k52 stitches, place maker, k2, place marker, knit to end of round. k52, slip marker, ktfb, ktfb, slip marker, knit to end of round. Weave in loose ends. You may find you have a tiny hole or two where the thumb separates from the hand. Simply close these from the inside once you are finished.
