Bodacious Borealis Mittens
Make these cuties in just a few hours with only one skein of yarn
Ingredients
Fits a standard woman's hand Yarn: 1 skein of Berroco Borealis (108 yards per each 3.5 oz/100g skein; 60% acrylic, 40% wool) Color 5068-Vogar Gauge: 16 stitches = 1 inch or 4 spi; 24 rows = 1 inch or 6 rpi Needle Size: Size #8/5 mm double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge Abbreviations: K: knit; P: purl; M1: Make one by placing a backward loop on the right needle; K2tog: knit 2 stitches together
Directions
1. Cast on 28 stitches. 2. Divide stitches between three DPNs. 3. Join in round being careful not to twist. 4. (K2, P2) repeat to end of round. 5. Repeat previous round 16 additional times. 6. Inc 4 stitches: (K7, M1) to end of round: 36 stitches. 7. Knit 4 rounds. 8. Create thumb gusset: K3, M1, K1, M1, K to end of round. 9. Knit 1 round. 10. K3, M1, K3, M1, knit to end of round. 11. Knit 1 round. 12. K3, M1, K5, M1, knit to end of round. 13. Knit 1 row. 14. K3, M1, K7, M1, knit to end of round. 15. K3 and then cast-on 3 stitches onto right needle. 16. Slip the next 9 thumb gusset stitches onto waste yarn. 17. Knit 15 rounds. 18. Begin decreases to shape top of mitten: (K3 K2tog) 6 times, K4. 19. Knit 1 round. 20. (K2 K2tog) to end of round. 21. Knit 1 round. 22. (K1 K2tog) to end of round. 23. Knit 1 round. 24. (K2tog) to end of round; 7 stitches remain. 25. Run needle through remaining stitches and tie off.

26. Make thumb:
Place 9 stitches from waste yarn onto one DPN. Beginning at the left side, pick up 6 stitches working clockwise around thumb opening. 15 stitches. 27. Divide stitches between 3 needles. 28. Knit 9 rounds. 29. (K1, K2tog) to end of round. 30. (K2tog) to end of round. 5 stitches remain. 31. Run a needle threaded with yarn through remaining stitches and tie off. 32. Weave in the ends.
