Size: woman's med, large (8, 9 inch ankle)

Materials

100 gm light fingering wt sock yarn US size 1.5 (2.5mm) needles or size needed to knit to gauge Cable Needle Stitch Markers Tapestry Needle Gauge: 8.5 sts & 12 rows/inch in stockinette

Notes

· When more than one number is given, the first applies to the medium size, the second to the large. . The size of the sock can be adjusted by using a smaller or larger needle for a different gauge.

Instructions

Cuff: Using the German Twisted Cast-on, loosely cast on 64 (72) stitches. Join, being careful not to twist your stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Work rounds 1- 13 of Chart A once. Chart A is worked twice per round.

Charts are read from bottom to top; right to left.

Instructions

Leg: Work rounds 1- 12 of Chart B five times or until desired length (ending after round 12). Work rounds 1-2 of Chart B once more. Chart B is worked twice per round. Charts are read from bottom to top; right to left.

Abbreviations:

sl- slip as if to purl, unless otherwise noted. k2tog/p2tog- knit/purl 2 stitches together. ssk- Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, slip another stitch as if to knit. Insert left needle through the front loops of the two slipped stitches and knit them together.

Instructions

Heel: Heel will be worked over the first 32 (36) sts. Place remaining 32 (36) sts on a holder for instep. Heel flap is worked back and forth. Work rows 1-16 of Chart C once. Work rows 5-16 only until flap measures 2 1/4 inches or desired length; ending after an odd row. Turn Heel: Row 1 (Wrong Side): slip 1, p18 (20), p2tog, p1, turn. Row 2: slip 1, k7, ssk, k1, turn. Row 3: slip 1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 4: slip 1, k9, ssk, k1, turn. Continue working one more stitch until all the stitches have been worked. You should end on a knit row with 20 (22) sts remaining. Do not turn work.

Gusset: Pick up and knit one stitch in each slipped stitch along side of heel. Place marker to indicate start of instep. Work 32 (36) instep sts in Chart B as established (starting with Row 3). Place marker to indicate end of instep. Pick up and knit same number of stitches along remaining side of heel. Knit 10 (11) stitches and place marker. The beginning of the round is now the middle of the heel. Gussetdecreases: Round 1: Knit around as established (Chart B on instep and stockinette on sole). Round 2 (decrease round): Knit to last 2 stitches before first instep marker, ssk. Slip marker. Work 32 (36) sts in pattern as established. Slip marker, k2tog, knit to end of round. Note: Yes, the ssk and k2tog are reversed from normal in the gusset. This is a "design" feature. Repeat these two rounds until 64 (72) stitches remain. 32 (36) instep sts/32 (36) sole sts. Foot: Knit as established until foot measures approximately 2 to 2 1/4 inches less than desired foot length; ending on Row 2 of Chart B. Place marker at the end of instep stitches to indicate NEW beginning of round.
