DIRECTIONS:
Brim of Hat
With US #2 circular needles, crochet hook and gray yarn, provisionally cast on 120 sts. Place stitch marker and join the circle. Work in the round for rows 1-13. Switch to US #3 and Purl Row 14. Then, proceed to work the pattern according to the chart for Rows 15-27. For Row 28 pickup the provisionally cast on stitches and k2tog with corre sponding work stitch to create a nice hemmed brim.
Base of Hat
Continue working according to the chart for Rows 29-72. Note: I made just the base of the hat initially and then duplicate stitched in the details later.

Begin Decrease at Row 73
Divide hat into six equal sections of 20 sts. Switch to double pointed needles when knitting gets to tight. Row 1: K2tog, Knit according to chart until 2 stitches remain, ssk for all six sections. Row 2: Knit according to chart. Repeat this 12 sts decreasing method 8 more times until 12 sts are left. Last Row: K2tog. 6sts left Place 3 sts on a stitch holder. Take the other 3 sts and I-cord until the piece measures about 4 inches. Cut yarn, leaving a 6" tail, and thread tail through the 3 sts to close the I-cord. Add yarn and repeat method with other 3 sts.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends. Duplicate stitch pattern, if necessary. Hand stitch in tongue detail for the four lions. Make two smallfringes by wrapping yarn around 2 or 3 fingers, 10-12 times. Tie the middle and cut loops on one side. Attach fringe to the end of I-cord then wrap the point of connection with contrasting yarn.
