Flamenco Semi-Circular Shawl Knitting Pattern: Top-Down Construction with Lace and Garter Stitch

This semi- circular shawl is worked in one piece from top down. The increase rows are worked between 3 lace patterns Finished Measurements after blocking: Wings span = 64 inches (173 cm) Center depth= 28 inches (71 cm)

Materials:

Galler: Heather Prime Alpaca - Approx 750 yards - (1.25 skein) Knitting needle; one 48" (122 cm) US # 6 (4.25 mm) Markers T-pins Blocking wires Tapestry needle Gauge: in Garter st with 20 sts and 40 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) square - Blocked

Instructions:

Note - M1= K in the thread between 2 sts. But you can use any increase of your choice Cast on 5 sts Row 1- K Row 2- (K1, M1) repeat, end K1 = 9 sts Rows 3 to 6- K Row 7= as row 2 = 17 sts Rows 8 to 12- K Row 13- as row 2 = 33 sts Rows 14 to 26- K Row 27-as row 2 = 65 sts Row 28- K. Rows 29 to 58: Chart 1 - rows 1 to 30 - Keeping 2 garter sts on each end (black frame - starting with 12 side sts, 12 sts repeat at the center (red frame) and 13 side sts at the end of row before the 2 edge sts (black frame)

Rows 59-60: K Row 61- as row 2 = 129 sts Row 62: K Rows 63 to 116- chart 2 - Interlaced Diamonds- rows 1 to 54- Keeping 2 garter sts at each edge (black frame) - 22 sts side sts, 20 sts repeat (red frame), 23 sts side sts at the end of row.

Row 117- as row 2 = 257 sts Chart 3 - Old Spanish Lace - Keeping 2 sts on Garter at each edge (black frame), 16 side sts on row 1 - 20 side sts after row 11, 20 sts repeat (red frame), 17 side sts at the end of row #1, 21 side sts at the end, before 2 edge sts in garter. Note: following the chart, you will increase 1 st each side on rows 3, 5, 7 and 9 = 265 sts, then you will repeat the chart from row 11 to 30 - 3 times then from rows 11 to 22 once. Rows 199- 200- 201- 202; K Row203-Picot bind off. K1,return st to left hand needle. \*Using the knit-on cast on, cast on 2 sts, Bind off 4 sts. Return the remaining stitch to left hand needle; repeat from \* until you have no more sts to bind off. Finishing and blocking: Sock the shawl in tepid water. Roll in towel to get rid of excesswater. Using blocking wires for the top edge and T-Pins to keep the semi-circular shape, block the shawl and let it air dry. Weave theends.
