Cat Bordhi's Sweet Tomato Heel:
No more gussets! This pattern features Cat Bordhi's ingenious Sweet Tomato Heel (STH). Cat Bordhi developed her STH over many months, working closely with over a hundred test knitters of all skill levels. During this time she distilled her illustrations and explanations again and again, until her test knitters and tech editor agreed the instructions were as clear and perfect as possible. In order to be sure that her work is not misrepresented, Cat asks that designers who wish to use her heel in their patterns send their readers directly to her free videos as well as to purchasing links for her eBook, Cat's Sweet Tomato Heel Socks (\$20), and to the eBook's individual patterns (\$6 each). She is encouraged that many knitters have been able to work from the free videos alone; if not, the eBook or individual patterns will give you the detailed instructions, illustrations, and explanations you need. After completing round 48, cut all yarns except Grass or Delta. \*\*Unlike Cat's socks, which are knitted on DPNs, you needn't change needles. Entire sock can be knitted on your circular needle. The heel will be worked on 1/2 the sts, or 48 sts. Using Grass (Delta) work 2 large wedges (rather than Cat's usual 3). Work 10 sts pairs on each side. This will leave 8 unpaired sts in the middle back of the heel. Then, after completing the first part of wedge one, when you have to knit across the instep, add your second square color and knit the first row of the next motif (which will be the opposite color squares from the ones you just completed). When you get to the end of the instep, detach the second color and continue the wedge with Grass (Delta) Repeat for second wedge.
FOOT:
Rround one of the next motif is already finished, so start on round two. For the foot, you will simply be repeating the 48 rounds of motifs, but you will be doing the back 3 squares on top, and the front 3 squares on the bottom. So, take the charts for the first motif, knit squares 4, 5, and 6 first. Then knit squares 1. 2, and 3. Repeat with the second and third motifs.
TOE:
Using Grass (Delta), decrease for toe as follows: Separate your stitches in half: 1/2 on top and half on the bottom (or as shown on cover if preferred, /2 on each side rather than top and bottom)

Using Grass (Delta), decrease for toe as follows: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts of NEEDLE 1, K2TOG, K1 Needle 2: K 1, SSK, knit until the last 3 stitches of NEEDLE 3 Needle 3: K to last 3 sts, K2TOG, K1 Needle 4: K1, SSK knit to last 3 sts of NEEDLE 1 Repeat this until the toe measures 2 inches. Graft the remaining stitches together using Kitchener st, and weave in all ends. Wash and block stocking. Lining: Turn stocking inside out and lay flat on s layers of flannel. Cut 2 pieces of flannel the shape of the stocking, allowing room to stitch. Machine or handstitch lining leaving top open. Turn stocking right side out, Place lining inside stocking and whipstitch to tack in place. Finishing:Work a4-stitchi-cord several inchs long and attach to topof stocking forhanging. Atach several ichs down inside stocking top and stitch up the edges for extra strength. Fill stocking with goodies!!!
