Purl Strings
By Lana Jois

This is a light, breezy scarf for those not-so-cold evenings. And it's probably the easiest pattern that you'll ever come across. Although I've seen lacy, meshy scarves like this, I've never come across one that uses this particularly pretty and easy stitch. You'll enjoy making it and you'll love the holey, lacy scarf that gets knit up quickly! The length and width of the scarf can easily be adjusted to suit your style. You can make this from any yarn, use your leftovers or mix and match and be done in a few hours. This pattern is for personal use only; please do not distribute it or use it for commercial purposes! Difficulty
Easy, beginner
Materials
Yarn -I used Duke silk from Silkindian. This is a worsted weight yarn but I think you can make this pattern with any yarn, fingering or sportweight, solid or variegated. I used one and a half skeins, that's about 320 yards (about 290m). Needles - 5mm or US size 8 needles.
Gauge
Gauge is not important for this project.
Finished size
Mine turned out 12" x 68" (30 x 172 cm) after light blocking.

Pattern
Loosely cast on 40 stitches by any method. If you want a wider scarf, increase the number of cast on stitches by multiples of 2. Row 1: K4, \*(yo, P2tog). Repeat from \* till last 4 stitches, K4. Repeat row 1 until desired length or till you run out of yarn.
A little more help with the pattern
After the first K4, the yarn lies at the back, so how do you do the 'yarn over'? First bring the yarn forward, then wrap it around the needle to bring it forward again and do the P2tog. Now the yarn is in front of the needle already, so just wrap it around the needle to bring it forward again and do the next P2tog. There, it's as easy as that!
