Little Bird

You will need:
Small amount of any DK wool in your colours of choice 2mm hook Tapestry needle Small amount of toy stuffing This pattern uses British crochet terms. Techniques used: dc, inc, dec, sl st, tr, magic circle

Body
Make a “magic ring" of 6st R1: inc in each st (12) R2: (dc, inc) 6 times (18) R3: (2dc, inc) 6 times (24) R4: (3dc, inc) 6 times (30) R5 &6: 30dc (30) R7: (3dc, dec) 6 times (24) R8: 24dc (24) R9: (2dc, dec) 6 times (18) R10-15: 18dc (18) R16: (dc, dec) 6 times (12) Stuff the body firmly. R17: dec 6 times (6) Cut yarn, fasten off and thread through the remaining stitches. Pull tight to close and weave in end.
Beak

R1: 6dc R2: dec, dec, 2dc Sl st and fasten off. weave in end. Eyes (make 2) - alternatively use felt Ch4, 3dc in 2nd ch from the hook, dc, 3dc in last ch Working around the foundation chain: Dc in next st, sl st Fasten off and weave in end.
Wings (make 2)
nto the second ch from hook (all 5 in the same st), dc, 3dc in next c Work around the other side of the foundation chain: dc in next st, dc, inc, 3dc into next st, inc, 3dc, tr in next st. Fasten off, leave a long end for sewing.



R1: 3dc, ch1, turn Ch4, starting with the second ch from the hook: Tail (working in rows) R2: 3dc, ch1, turn R3: inc, dc, inc, ch1, turn R4: 5dc, turn R5: ch6 and sl st into last stitch of previous row. \*ch6, sl st\* Repeat from \* to the end. Fasten off and weave in end. Legs (make 2) Ch15, starting from 2nd chain from the hook: (Sl st 4 times, ch5) twice, sl st 4 times Wrap the yarn around the back of the long chain before ch3)

Sl st into the chain at the beginning of the first 'toe' - the 1oth ch from the top of the leg. Wrap the yarn around the long chain and ch3. Sl st in 2nd ch from the hook, sl st. Ch1, 9 sl st into the long chain and fasten off.

Making up

Sew legs to bottom, equal distance apart with the magic circle at the centre.

Sew the tail between the 5th and 6th rows from the bottom, inbetween the legs as shown.

Sew each wing to the top of the first set of dec rows, in line with the legs.

Sew the eyes each side of the beak, leaving the outer half of each eye unattached so the eyes face forwards. Use a strand of black yarn to embroider the pupils.

Sew the top of the beak 5 rows down from the top of the head. Feel free to sell the birds you make from this pattern, but please do not sell, reproduce or translate the pattern itself.
