Pix Patisserie is a beloved little spot to enjoy hot tea and sweet treats. I like to gather here with friends and knit, play cards, and indulge. I designed these mitts to wear while enjoying a fleur de sel macaron,thick hot chocolate,and good company at Pix in Portland. Join me, won't you? NOTEs: This advanced beginner level pattern includes instructions to make a pair of lace wrist warmers. You'll need to know how to read a pattern, cast on, knit,purl, slip stitches, increase, decrease, pick up stitches, read a chart, and work in the round. Gauge: 28 stitches/40 rows = 4" in Stockinette Stitch, with larger needles. Size: Women's Small (Women's Medium, Women's Large) Sample shown: Size Women's Small. Wrist circumference: 6 (7,8) inches, [15,18,20 cm] unstretched. Will stretch to fit 7 (8, 9) inches [18,20,23 cm]. Yarn: Fingering weight yarn. Samples Shown: Hazel Knits Entice MCN [70% merino wool,20% cashmere, 10% nylon; 400yd per 115g skein]; color: Chocoberry, 1 skein. Small size used 58g and 202yd. Rocks That Rock Lightweight [100% Merino; 360yd per 127g skein]; color: Sweet Pea,1 skein. Small size used 78g and 221yd. Needles: 1 set US 1 (2.25 mm) AND US 2 (2.75 mm) 32" circular needles (magic loop),2 sets of 24" circulars, OR double pointed needles. Notions: Darning needle, stitch holder, and stitch markers. ABBREVIATIONS: BO: Bind off CQ: Cast on Cont: Continue DD: Double Decrease. Slip 2 sts as if knitting them together, k1, pass slipped sts over knit st. Est:Established K: Knit K2tog: Knit two stitches together as one stitch M: Marker M1L: Make one,left leaning. Bring the tip of the left-hand needle under the strand between stitches,from front to back. Knit through the back of the loop. One stitch increased. M1R: Make one, right leaning: Bring the tip of the left-hand needle under the strand between stitches, from back to front. Knit this loop. One stitch increased. N1 (N2): Needle 1 (2) P: Purl PM:Place Marker P2tog: Purl two stitches together as one stitch Rep: Repeat Rnd: Round RS: Right (or public) side of work Sl: Slip. As in, slip the next stitch from left to right purl-wise. St: stitch WS: Wrong (or non-public) side of work SSK: Slip one stitch as if to knit, slip the next stitch as if to knit, insert left needle into front of these two stitches and knit them together. Cuff:
With smaller needle, cast on 50 (56,64) stitches. Divide evenly between needles and join to begin working in the round, being careful not to twist stitches when joining. If needed, place marker to indicate the beginning of the round. Rnd 1: Purl Rnd 2: Knit Rep rnds 1-2 once more. Switch to larger needle. Next:Knit 1" Next rnd: \*K8 (54,14), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd. (45,55,60 sts) Next: Work rnds 1-2 twice Arm: LeftMitt: Work rows 1-24 of Lace Chart twice, then work rows 1-12. Right Mitt: Work rows 13-24 of Lace Chart, then work rows 1-24 twice. Start Thumb Gusset Shaping: Set-up rnd: \*P7 (9,10),p2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd. (40 sts) 50 55 Rnd 1: Knit Rnd 2:Purl Rnd 3:Knit Left Mitt: Rnd 4: Knit to last 13 (14,14) sts, work Hand Chart (starting with row 13), knit to end of rnd. Right Mitt: Rnd 4: Knit to last 13 (14,14) sts, work Hand Chart (starting with row 1), knit to end of rnd. Both Mitts: Rnd 5: (INCREASE RND) K12 (16,18),pm, m1r, yo, pm, knit until last 13 (14, 14) sts, work appropriat row of Hand Chart, knit until end of rnd. (2 sts increased) Rnd 6: Cont as est until the end of the round, with NO increases. Rnd 7: (INC RND) Cont as est until first marker, slm, M1R, k to next marker, M1L,slm,cont as est until the end of the rnd. Rnd 8: Cont as est until first marker, slm, k to next marker, slm, cont as est until the end of the rnd. Repeat Rnds 7-8 until there are 20 thumb stitches in between markers. Next Rnd: Cont as est until first marker, remove marker, slip 20 thumb sts onto stitch holder, remove marker, CO 3 stitches, cont as est until the end of the rnd. Next Rnd: Cont as est until the end of the rnd, with NO increases. Rep this rnd for 1.5" (3.75 mm) or until .25" (.5 cm) until desired finished length. With smaller needle: Rnd 1: Knit Rnd 2: Purl Rep rnds 1-2 once more.
Bind Off:
Bind off all stitches loosely in knit stitch, or using a sewn bind off, or some other stretchy bind off of your choice.
Thumb:
Slide the stitches on hold to larger needles and divide to work in the round. Attach yarn (leaving a long tail to sew up holes later) and knit across the 20 stitches. Pick up and knit 5 sts along the hand side of the mitt.
