Quicky Cowl by Erin Cowling gradschoolknitter@yahoo.com This super warm cowl knits up quickly, using worsted weight yarn. Materials: 1 skein (ok, more like 3/4s of a skein) Angel's Kiss Alpaca Yarn Worsted Alpaca Merino (220 yds per skein) US size 7 (4.5mm) needles (straight or circular, your preference) Tapestryneedle Scrap yarn Instructions: Using scrap yarn provisionally cast on 40 stitches. Switch to Angel's Kiss Yarn, knit 1 row. WS Row (same for ALL wrong side rows): knit 4, purl 32, knit 4. (ONLY RS rows are charted, make sure to do a WS row between every charted row and at end (16 rows total). Begin chart:

Repeat all 16 rows of chart until cowl is long enough to wrap around neck, ending with a row 8 or row 16. Remove provisional cast on and place 40 live stitches onto other needle. Hold wrongsides together, cut a long length of yarn from ball and feed onto tapestry needle. Graft the two sides together. There are very good (complete with pictures) instructions on how to graft here: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer04/FEATtheresasum04.html HOWEVER: these instructions are for a stockinette to stockinette graft. If you want it to look completely seamless you should follow the directions for grafting garter to garter on the first and last four stitches as found in Ysolda's Urchin pattern: http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/PATTurchin.html switching to stockinette grafting for the middle 32 stitches. Weave in ends.
