Heptagon Knitting Pattern: A Versatile Hat Design for Adults in Two Sizes with Detailed Instructions and Techniques

Heptagon is a hat that can be done in 2 sizes. The blue-green Heptagon, made from different shades of yarn, is the largest of the two. it is a true beret, and is designed to be worn very proudly to the side. It can also be pull back symmetrically. The pink-red Heptagon, made with aran yaru, is a well-covering cap. It is designed to be pulled low over the head. The smooth points of the Heptagon flatter the face and make it an original cap that looks good on everyone.

Heptagon is knit flat, from the bottom up. The increases and decreases are paired on both sides of a central line of stoking stitch surrounded by garter stitch. They are knit on the right of the hat. The seam is in the middle of the Fth section. There 1 selvedge stitch on either side ofthe fabric. The selvedge is knit in stockinette stitch, and will be used when the hat is sewn together. The instructions for both the cap and the beret are mostly identical, and are written in purple. The intructions in green apply only to the largest hat : the blue beret. Materials :

Dk yarw: - Pink-red cap: 12ogr (4o oz)(the yaru used in this model is thicker than the one for the beret). - Blue-green beret: Fog (2o oz) of the main colour and 3og (1 oZ) of the other colour. Recommended needle size: 5mm (F Us) and 4 1/z mm(8 Us). Embroidery needle for assembling the beret and if necessary, sewing thread of a matching colour if the yarn is very thick and irregular, such as the one used for the red-pink cap! Gauge : 5 stiches x 8 rows = 2,5cm (1 inch)

Techniques and abbreviations:

Long-Tail cast-Ow. Knit (k). Purl (P). Double center decrease (DcD): slip two stitches knitwise, knit the wext one, and slip the two slipped stitches over the just knitted stitch. Make One Right (MiR): with the left needle, lift the horizontal strand (between the stitch that has just been knit and the following one) from the front. Place the strand of the left needle, knit into it from the back. Make One left (MiL): with the left needle, lift the horizontal strand (between the stitch that has just been knit and the following stitch) from the back. Place the strand on the left weedle, and knit into it from the front. Knit 2 sts together (K2Tog).

Instructions :

1) cast-On &6 sts, with 4,5mm (US F) weedles using Lowg-Tail cast-Ow. 2) \* P1, K1 \* for 5 rounds.

3 lncreases :

From wow, use the 5mm needles. Wrong side of your wore. P1 (selvedge), K5, P1, (K11, P1)6 times, K6,P1 (selvedge). The stitches separating the sections of the beret, as well as the selvedges, are worked in stockinette. Knit them on right side and purl them on wrong side. KF, M1R,(K1, M1L, K11, M1R) 6 times, K1, M1l, K6 : 100 sts. For the next 3 rows, enit the enits aud purl the purls. K8, MIR, (K1, M1L, K13, M1R)6 times, K1, M1L, K7: 114 sts. For the next 3 rows, enit the enits and purl the purls. K9, M1R, (K1, M1L, K15, M1R) 6 times, K1, M1L, K8 : 128 sts. For the wext 3 rows, knit the enits and purl the purls. K10, MIR,(K1, M1L, K17, M1R) 6 times, K1, M1L, K9 :142 sts. For the next 3 rows, knit the enits and purl the purls. K11, M1R, (K1, M1L, K19, M1R) 6 times, K1 ,M1L, K10 :156 sts. For the next 3 rows, knit the enits and purl the purls. K12, M1R, (K1, M1L, K21, M1R) 6 times, K1, M1L, K11 :170 sts. For the wext 3 rows, enit the knits and purl the purls.
