Kobold's Easy Slippers - knitted
The slippers are worked from toe to heel in one piece. Depending on your abilities of cast on and cast off there may be no seams at alloralittleoneatthetoeand/or attheheel. I prefer making these slippers because they can be tried on any time you like to make sure about the size. It doesn't look so, but they fit very well and you can store them flat. Yarn: bulky You can use every yarn you like - best would be bulky yarn or to strands of a thinner yarn. Needle: 5-6 mm /US 8-10 or larger - suitable for your yarn I worked in rounds with only 2 needles - you can use 4 needles or circular ones if you like.
Construction:
The construction is simple: you have to work 4 parts as shown in the scheme. After knitting 2/3 in rounds you put in a simple slit on the upper half of the slipper only. Then knit the last 1/3. Before and after the slit you should knit ca. 3 rows in stripes (knit 1 pearl 1) to prevent the slit borders from rolling up. At my first pair I didn't do so and I ended up embroidering the borders. If you plan to add a cuff, this action is not needed, means you simply knit before and after the slit.
Cast on:
Several technics are possible: simple: cast on the needed stitch count using a method you know and put half of it on a second needle seamless: use the magic/invisible cast on like you might do knitting toe-up-socks - alternately on needle 1 and needle2

2 pairs in size EU 41/43 and 1 pair in EU 45/46 made from overleftsusing 2 strands atonce

How much stitches you have to cast on, depends on how pointy you want your slippers. For the pairs at the picture I cast on 14 stitches - 7 on needle 1 and 7 on needle 2 For bulky yarn and needles 6 mm/Us 10 for adults - 14 stitches ( 7 on each needle). For bigger feet (more than 28 cm/11 inch) use 2x8 or 2x9 stitches per needle - depending on the width of the foot. For children I would cast on less stitches: 2 x 3 or 2 x 5 stitches depending on size and yarn.
toe (increase):
\* needle 1 + 2:knit needle 1: knit 1 - make 1 - knit until only 1 is left - make 1 - knit 1 needle 2: work like needle 1 \* Repeat \*\* - increase 4 stitches per row in every 2"d row - until you have enough stitches on your needles. (For EU 41/43 - 11 inch - ca. 15 stitches per needle -for EU 44/45 - 12 inch - ca. 16 stitches)
Straight parts:
Go on knitting until 2 cm/1 inch before the instep. That may be 20-26 rows depending on the foot length and yarn (l counted on my slippers different row numbers??) Then: Work 3 rows in stripes (knit 1 pearl 1.) only on needle 1 (upper part) to prevent the borders from rolling up, needle 2 (sole)- simply knit. Cast off needle 1, knit needle 2 Cast on (knit on) the number of stitches which you cast off in the row before on needle 1 knit needle 2 Work 3 rows in stripes (knit 1 pearl 1.) only on needle 1 (upper part) knit needle 2 Knit 2-3 rows onboth needles

Heel - decrease (shorter than toe and not as pointy):
:ase 2 stitches per needle ca. 3 times in every 2"d row at the beginning and the end of each needle \*needle 1: Knit 1, skp (slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over) - knit until 3 stitches are left-knit 2 together, knit 1 →2 stitchesdecreased Needle 2: repeat from needle 1\* Repeat \*\* 1 or 2 times Now you are at the end of the slipper - what can you do? These are the possibilities: Cast off and sew the opening together OR Use Kitchener stitch to close the opening OR Simply interlace the stitches of the 2 needles to avoid a seam: Knit 1 from needle 1, knit 1 from needle 2 pass first knitted stitch over, knit 1 from needle 1, pass over, knit 1 from needle 2, pass over... until the end. This method is not as stretchy as Kitchener stitch but simple and you have nothing to sew.
Finishing:
If you have openings at the toe and/or heel sew them together, weave the yarn in - ready! 'ou may put Sockstop at the sole, if you want -I write the size on the sole.
Variation:
If you like to add a cuff to the slippers I recommend not to cast off for the slit in the middle but to knit these stitches with spare yarn. When the slipper is ready, remove the spare yarn taking the stitches on needles to knit a cuff. It would be better for fitting to work some little short rows at the beginning and the end of the slit. Try it out!
