Pattern illustration

Knit this delightfully soft and warm chunky scarf in just a few hours. It's fast and easy, using approximately 100 yards of any Chunky yarn. The photos show projects using Crystal Palace Yarns, Mochi Plus (2 balls) and Berroco Yarns, Borealis (1 hank). Keep this pattern handy for knitting quick and rewarding gifts. The finished size is 4 inches x 44 inches. The pattern may be easily modified for greater width and length. It is constructed with knitted-in I-Cord edges.

Materials: 3 balls (98 yards) of Crystal Palace Yarns, Chunky Mochi and size 11 knitting needles. Yarn needle. The gauge is 3 stitches per inch in garter stitch. One hank (108 yards) of Berroco Borealis was used for the scarves in the other pictures. I-Cord Edges: The I-cord edges are knitted in row by row. Note: Reserve approximately 2 inches of yarn per stitch for the cast on and the bind off, or approximately one yard for each. I used one yard, which left enough of a tail to weave in theends. Directions: Using the long tail cast on method, cast on 15 stitches.

All rows: Knit 12, Slip the last three stitches PURLWISE.

Notice as you begin Row 2, the working yarn is after the third stitch. Use the working yarn normally to knit the first three stitches and continue knitting to the last three stitches on the row. Slip them purl wise. The I-Cord will form on each side of the scarf as you knit the rows, slipping the last three stitches purl wise.

Bind off in normally in pattern, matching the tension of the cast on until the final three stitches. Since the I-Cord stitches are curving towards you, we want to bind them off continuing the shape of the I-Cord. Slip them off and slip them back on your needle in reverse order, continuing the natural curve of the I-Cord. Bind off the last three stitches normally.
