LILAC

A knitting pattern by Janicke Lekang The pattern for this dishcloth came to me while I was waiting for a new dishclothpattern from Bitta Mikkelborg, in her dishcloth-along. Thank you, Bitta, for your inspiration. :) Beautiful summer weather, beautiful purple yarn, and my lilac-trees almost in full bloom, so of course the name had to be Lilac. Materials: Knitting needles 3 mm, either dpns, circular needle or spns will do. One skein (50 g) cotton yarn, or any plant material suitable for dishcloth. In the original I used little less than one skein of Marks & Kattens' Magnolia. And so to the knitting: Cast on 55 stitches, knit 5 rows moss stitch, k1, p1. Then start row 1 in the diagram, start knitting from bottom right side, to left, this is the right side of the work. Next row is row 2, start from the left side. Knit following the diagram to the top, and repeat row 1-8 as many times as you find necessary to your dishcloth has the size you want. Repeat row 1 and 2 of the diagram Then knit 5 rows moss-stitch, as you did starting the work - HOWEVER - on your first row of moss-stitch, do the cables in row 3 of the diagram where they appear on your work, in moss-stitch. (First cable - take two stitches off on your cable needle in front of your work, knit the next two stitches in moss stitch, knit the two stitches from the cable needle in moss stitch. Do the same with all cables, following the moss stitch pattern, and the direction of the cable) Cast off purling from the purl side of your work. Iron carefully from the purlside, and - voila - your dishcloth is finished when you've fastened your loose ends as well. I usually don't like using cable needles when knitting cables, I find it easier without them. In this youtube video you can see the technique I use. Knitting cables without a cableneedle Last but not least - knit as many of my dishcloths as you wish, use them yourself, give them away, or sell them if you wish. However, do NOT share this pattern in printed form. Linking to my website is allowed, or direct link to the pattern. You may not display this pattern as your own design.
