Finishing... Cast off leaving a long thread to sew edges together to form a tube with the cabled edges forming the top and bottom openings.

Take it further:

Instead of a stitched seam to this cowl—you could start and finish differently for a sleeker look and some knitting progression by... Cast on 62 stitches using a Provisional Cast On (follow pattern instructions). And rather than cast off at the end, graft the cast on and off edges using Kitchener stitch.
