I was recently lucky enough to receive an e-reader as a gift, and I love it. I knew it needed a cover, and as a knitter, I knew I was going to make it myself. I considered making a felted cover and mentally went through my stash, to remember what wool I had on hand. I remembered that I had several balls of Noro Kureyon, thought about Jared Flood's wonderful Striped Noro Scarf, and the idea was born: a striped Kureyon e-reader cover! Knitted in k1p1 ribbing, the fabric compresses and looks like Stockinette, only it's super thick and cushy, easily as thick as felted fabric. Striping Noro is lots of fun and yields beautiful results.
Materials:
!: Noro Kureyon, 1 ball each of two different colors. Sample knitted in #149 and #22 Needles: Size 6 straight Size 6 dpns (Or size needed to obtain gauge) Notions: tapestry needle for sewing seams and weaving in ends Gauge: 21 sts x 24 rows = 4 inches in 1x1 rib Finished dimensions: After blocking, before sewing seams: 18 in L by 5 in W After sewing seams: 5 in W x 7.5 in L Pattern With one color, co 27 sts K 2 rows in k1p1 ribing \* Change to the other color and K 2 rows in k1p1 ribbing \* Alternate knitting two rows of each color in k1p1 ribbing until piece measures 15 inches long Once piece measures 15 inches long, begin decreasing for flap: K1, ssk, k in pattern to the last 3 inches, k2tog, k1. Knit one row of plain K1p1 ribbing (no decreases) Alternate these two rows until 14 sts remain, then bind off. Block.

Make i-cord tie: co 3 sts, k i-cord until it measures 22 inches. I the bottom up so that a 7.5 inch long pocket is formed, as shown below and pin it.

Sew the side seams. Then take the i-cord and poke it through the front of the cover at the top, as shown. The fabric is stretchy enough and has an open enough gauge that no buttonholes are necessary. You can just poke the i-cord through the stitches.

ne i-cord through the flap and tie it. You're done! A cushy, soft, pretty e-reader cove
