Wandering Waves Sock Knitting Pattern by Melanie Hoffman - Toe-Up, Short Row, Magic Loop, and DPN Instructions

Wandering Waves

by Melanie Hoffman The sock pictured is knit with a short row toe and a short row heel and is knit from the toe up. Feel free to use whichever toe and heel method you prefer. If you would rather knit from the top down, you can easily adapt the pattern to that as well. The stitch pattern looks great upside-down or rightside-up. Instructions are written for knitting using the Magic Loop method or 2 circular needles. If using dpn's work the short rows with just 2 needles. When working the body of the sock, simply put the stitches for the top of the foot on one needle and divide the remaining % between 2 needles for ease of pattern reading. The stitch pattern is worked in multiples of 8, so if you need a smaller or bigger size than what is given, work in multiples of 8.

Short Row Heel

Before starting the heel, mark the row you left off on so you know where in the pattern to pick up. The heel is worked the same as the toe so repeat steps 1-12 of the toe only on needle #2.

Leg and Cuff

You will now begin working the stitch pattern on both needles. Continue on in pattern until desired length is reached. For the cuff, $\ast_{\mathsf{k}2}$ , p2: repeat from \* around to beginning. Work 2x2 ribbing for about $1^{\prime\prime}$ , or as desired. Bind off stitches very loosely. Instructions for a sewn bind off can be found here: http://www.theknittingsiren.com/pages/sewnbo.php
