This was inspired by Rick Roirdan's books about Percy Jackson, demi-god son of Poseidon. I loved the tweediness of these yarns and thought they'd look good together. This sweater is knit using 2 strands of DK weight yarn together to create a super bulky weight that's very soft and has a nice hand. Knit from the top down, this sweater has a loose cowl neck and raglan sleeves. I had jeans and football weather in mind when I designed this one. You could switch out the color ways and really have fun; do mostly blue, or mostly purple and red, or mostly grey or brown, or just 2 (or 1) colors you really liked. This pattern is pretty basic and because it's bulky, it knits up fast.

Size: Women's medium

Size 9 and 10 circular needles , 16 and 24 inches and double pointed 16 balls of Knitpicks City Tweed DK, here's my original colorway (Percy): 4 Porpoise City Tweed DK 4 Poseidon City Tweed DK 3 Enchanted City Tweed DK 3 Orca City Tweed DK 1 Morning Glory City Tweed DK 1 Splash City Tweed DK
Gauge:
3 sts. and 5 rows/inch on larger needles
Directions:
Neck: Starting with 16 inch circular size 10 needles and Porpoise and Poseidon cast on 56 sts. Join and work st. st.for 5 inches. Body: At beginning of next round place markers for raglan seams every 16, 12, 16, 12 sts. (back, left sleeve, front, rt. sleeve). Work 42 rounds st. st. increasing one stitch on each side of the raglan seams every other round (total of 21 increase rounds) while AT THE SAME TIME begin using the various colors being knit in order to create the color variation, switching one of the paired yarns colors at the start of each new round. \*See note on changing colors Raglan increase rounds: I use a bar increase for this, it's very even and stable you don't end up with gappy holes all along your raglan seam. k1, KFB, k54, KFB, k1, pass marker from left to right needle, k1 KFB, k5o, KFB, k1, pass marker from left to right needle, k1, KFB, k54, KFB, k1, pass marker from left to right needle, k1 KFB, k50, KFB, k1. (Note on changing colors\* I did this pretty randomly, but here's a tip; Splash and Morning Glory are accents, so use them sparingly. Incorporate them in 2—4 rows then break them off to avoid having to carry them a long ways down the body of the sweater. Leave just the 4 major colors attached the whole time and being sure you use each of them frequently enough to avoid long loops on the back side of the work (e.g. Round 1Porpoise & Enchanted, Round 2Enchanted & Poseidon, Round 3 Poseidon & Orca). Frequent color changes will make for α more subtle, shaded effect rather than a stripy one.) Switch to longer circular size 10 needlles as needed. You will now have 58, 54, 58, 54 sts. for your back, left sleeve, front, right sleeve. Work 4 more rounds.

Separate sleevess Next round work 58 sts. (back of body), place the next 54 sts. (left sleeve) onto a piece of scrap yarn to hold them while you work the body. With a piece of scrap yarn cast on 10 sts. onto your left hand needle, knit over these 10 sts., (this will make the ease between the body and sleeve), placing a marker between sts. 5 and 6 to mark the side seam (you will be removing the raglan seam markers while you do all this as you don't need to mark them any more). Knit the next 58 sts. (front of body), place the next 54 sts.(right sleeve) onto a piece of scrap yarn to hold them while you work the body. With a piece of scrap yarn cast on 10 sts. onto your left hand needle, knit over these 10 sts, (this will make the ease between the body and sleeve), placing a marker between sts.5 and 6 to mark the side seam (you may want to use a different color marker here so you know this is the beginning and end of yourrounds). Work these 136 sts, continuing to alternate colors every round until piece measures 12 in. or desired length. Switch to smaller needles and using Porpoise and Poseidon work 15 inches (12 rows) st.st.Cast ofloosely on nextround. Sleeves (both alike): Pick up 54 sts. of first sleeve on the 16 inch size 10 circular needle. Next using a smaller double pointed needle, pick up the 10 stitches you have knit off the 10 sts. scrap cast on for the ease between the body and sleeve. Once all 10 sts. are picked up, remove the scrap yarn you used to cast them on and knit over these 10, placing α stitch marker between sts. 5 and 6 to mark the beginning/end of the round. Work 4 rounds. Next round: k1, k2t, k the rest of the round until you have 3 sts. remaining, ssk, k1. Knit 3 rounds. Repeat these 4 rounds 16 times, decreasing to 32 sts. and changing to double pointed needles when you need to. When sleeve measures 16 inches from armpit seam, change to smaller needles and using Porpoise and Poseidon work 1.5 inches (12 rows) st. st.. Cast off loosely on next round.
