
Worsted or aran weight yarns may be used, but please check gauge. Yarn requirements quoted are approximate. Gauge 19 sts x 26 rows in stockinette stitch = 10cm or 4 inches. 3.5mm (US 4) dpns or circular needles 4.5mm (Us 7) dpns or circular needles If using circular needles, a length of 100 cm/40 inches is recommended for magic looping throughout, or if preferred lengths ranging from 30 cm/12 inches upwards. Change needle length as necessary.

sout sizes make the size bigger- the hats are quite stre Optional - The knit sts may be knit through the back of loops to give a sharper appearance to the 'spines'. The 1x1 rib could incorporate invisible knitting elastic if desired.

Fitted Beanie
Using larger 4.5mm (US 7) needles cast on 64 (72, 78, 90, 96, 96) sts. Alternate cable cast on will give a neat edge. Join in the round, place marker for end of round. Using smaller 3.5 mm (US 4) needles work K1, P1 rib for 6(8, 8, 10, 10, 12) rounds. At the end of the last round increase using M1 by 1(0, 0, 0, 0, 0) stitch.
All sizes:
Change to larger 4.5 mm(US 7) needles. Make sure a knit st from the 1x1 rib is the first st of the next round. [K1, P4 (5, 5, 5, 7, 7)] Repeat to end of round.
Crown
Large and Extra-Large size only
(K1, P1, P2tog, P4) repeat to the end of round (K1, P6) repeat to the end of round. Repeat this round 0(0, 0, 0, 0, 1) time more. (K1, P1, P2tog, P3) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P5) repeat to the end of round. Repeat this round 0(0, 0, 0, 0, 1) time more. (K1, P1, P2tog, P2) repeat to the end of round (K1, P4) repeat to the end of the round. Repeat this round 0(1, 1, 1, 0, 1) time more.


All sizes
(K1, P1, P2tog, P1) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P3) repeat to the end of round. Repeat this round 2(1, 1,1, 0, 0) time more. (K1, P1, P2tog) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P2) repeat to the end of round. Repeat this round 2(1, 1, 1, 0, 0) time more. (K1, P2tog) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P1) repeat to the end of round. Repeat this round 2(1, 1, 0, 0, 0) time more. K1, (K2tog) repeat to the last st, using the last st of this round and the first st of the next round K2tog. Continue doing K2tog until there are 6 sts remaining. Cut yarn leaving a few inches to thread though remaining sts, weave in ends.
High Line
Beret
Using larger needles cast on 96 (96) sts. Alternate cable cast on wil give a neat edge. Join in the round, place marker for end of round. Using smaller needles work K1, P1 rib for 7'/2 cm or 3 inches. Change to larger needles. Make sure a knit st from the ribbing is the first st of the round. Round 1 - [K1, P 7, M1] repeat to end of round. Round 2 and 3 - [K1, P8] repeat to end of round. Round 4 - [K1, P8, M1] repeat to end of round. Round 5 and 6 [K1, P9] repeat to end of round. Round 7 - (K1, P9, M1) repeat to the end of round. Round 8 and 9 - [K1, P10] repeat to the end of round. Keep working in this manner increasing on every 3" round until there 14 (16) purl sts between the knit spines. Work 2 rounds in pattern without any shaping.
Crown
Extra-Large size only.
(K1, P14, P2tog) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P15) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P13, P2tog) repeat to the end of round. (K1, P14) repeat to the end of round.
Large and Extra-Large
Round i- (K1, P12, P2tog) repeat to the end of round Round i - (K1, P13) repeat to the end of round. Round i- (K1, P11, P2tog) repeat to end of round. Round iv - (K1, P12) repeat to end of round. . Round v - (K1, P10, P2tog) repeat to the end of round. Round vi - (K1, P11) repeat to the end of round. Keep decreasing on alternate rounds in the same way until there is only one purl st between the knit spines. K1, (K2tog) repeat to the last st, using the last st of this round and the first st of the next round K2tog. Continue doing K2tog until there are 6 sts remaining.
