Jake and his pirates

Materials: Worsted weight yarn in red, brown, black and pink Lion Brand Fun Fur in black Hooks: G hook (4.0mm), I hook (5.0mm) Yarnneedle Gauge: 4" = 13 hdc and 9 rows For the fur/hair section please count carefully. It is hard to count fur stitches and much easier to keep track as you go. This hat is actually created inside-out. It will appear that most of the fur will be on the inside of the hat. After "hair" section is completed, it will be turned right side out, exposing the furriest part. Follow increases until desired size, as listed at the end of the row, then skip to "for all sizes" and continue. Note: Do not join at the end of each round, unless stated. This hat is worked in a continuous round to avoid a "seam" look.

Ch 31, sc in first ch fror hook and across. Turn. \*Ch 1, sc each stitch to end of row, turn\*, repeat for a total of 5 rows (or more if a wider band is desired)

Remove marker and hdc each stitch until hat is 2" shorter than desired length (see chart below). Next round (all sizes): \*sc, scfp (single crochet around front post of next stitch)\*, repeat to end of round, do not join. Ch 31 (this will create the tails), sc in first ch from hook and across to opposite end. Ch 26, sc in first ch from hook and across. Turn. \*Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Ch 1, \*sc, scfp\*, repeat to end of row. Turn.\* Repeat from \* to \* for a total of 2" or until hat is desired length. Finish off and weave in ends. Braids (optional): Cut 15 pieces of brown yarn, 18" long each. Fold hat in half to find placement for braids. To attach yarn without it being seen from the outside, take a few pieces at a time and pull through the inside loops of the last couple rounds of the hat. Since these will be braided together, make sure to keep them close. Divide strands into thirds and braid. Wrap a long piece of pink yarn around the end of the braid several times to hold in place, then tuck in the ends of the pink yarn and trim. Cut ends of braids even. Repeat for other side.
MAGIC LOOP
This is THEE best way to start a circle. Please google or youtube "magic loop" or "adjustable loop" for help. You will be so happy you did. I can never get a regular joined chain to close completely. You really will say this technique is "magic". If you have any questions, comments or suggestions please email me at snappytots@hotmail.com.
