Lacy Doll Cardigan Thisloosefitting little sweater hasgarterridges striping the top and feather and fan lace scalloping the bottom. It is knit from the top down, and the sleeves are knit in the round. Directions are given for three sizes to fit a variety of dolls, and it can be knit with Shetland, sport, and DK weight yarns. Shetland, sport, and DK (13-15 wpi) yarns. Samples knit with Cascade 220 Sport, 100% Peruvian Highland wool, 50 g, 164 yds/150 m Small: 20 g (66 yds/60 m) Lavender #7809 Medium: 30 g (100 yds/94 m) Pink #9477 and Green#9592 Large: 40 g (132 yds/ 120 m) Soft Sage #9602

Needles

US size 5 (3.75 mm) needles and set of 5 doublepointed needles (see Sweater Note 3 below), or sizeto obtaingauge

20 sts = 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

Supplies

4 stitch markers, 2 12" (30.5 cm) strands of waste yarn to hold sleeve stitches, tapestry needle, 3 3/8' (1 cm) buttons, sewing thread and needle or 24" (61 cm) ribbon for ties.

Sweater Notes

1. Directions are given for three sizes. Where they differ, numbers for larger sizes follow. 2. Buttonholes are worked as small loops with a yo, k2tog on last 2 stitches of a row. If no buttonholes are desired, knit those stitches instead. 3. Sleeves can be knit in the round on doublepointed needles or circular needles. Stitch placement is given for double points. 4. Wraps-per-inch (wpi) is a way to measure yarn size. Without stretching, wrap yarn around a ruler for 1" (2.5cm), and count the strands.

INSTRUCTIONS Neckband

Cast on 43 (49/55) sts. Rows 1 & 2: knit across.

Raglan Shaping

After Set-up Rows, sweater increases 8 sts every odd-numbered row. Buttonhole directions in Setup Row 1 can be repeated 2 more times every 6 (8/8) rows (after 3/4/4 front band garter ridges). If no buttonholes are desired, knit to end of row. Set-up Row 1 (RS): k8 (9/10), pm, k7 (8/9), pm, k13 (15/17), pm, k7 (8/9), pm, knit to last 2 sts, yo, k2tog for buttonhole. Set-up Row 2 (WS): k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3. Small and Large Sizes Only Row 1 (RS): \*knit to 1 st before marker, yo, k1, slip marker, k1, yo\* 4 times, knit to end. (51/63 sts) Row 2 (ws): knit across. AllSizes Row 1 (RS): \*knit to 1 st before marker, yo, k1, slip marker, k1, yo\* 4 times, knit to end. (59/57/71 sts) Row 2 (WS): k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3. Sweater Body

On Row 1, remove stitch markers. Stitch count increases on Row 3 and then remains even. Row 1 (RS): k15 (17/19), place next 21 (24/27) sts on waste yarn, cast on 4 (5/6) sts with backwards loops, k27 (31/35), place next 21 (24/27) sts on waste yarn, cast on 4 (5/6) sts with backwards loops, k15 (17/19). There will be 21 (24/27) sleeve stitches on each waste yarn and 65 (75/85) stitches on needles for body. Row 2 (WS): k3, purl to last 3 stitches, k3. Row 3: k3, \*yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, k1, ssk, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1\* to last 2 sts, k2. (77/89/101 sts) Row 4: knit across. Row 5: knit across. Row 6: k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3. Row 7: k3, \*yo, k1, yo, k2tog, k2tog, k1, ssk, ssk, yo, k1, yo, k1\* to last 2 sts, k2. Row 8: knit across. Work Rows 5-8 3 (4/6) times total or to desired length before 3/8" (1 cm) bottom border.

Bottom Border

For lace to scallop, the cast off must be worked loosely,anddirectionsincludeanElasticCast-off.If a straight hem is preferred, work any ordinary castoff at a normal tension. Rows 1-3: knit across. Row 4 (WS): Work Elastic Cast-off: k1, \*k1, transfer 2 sts back to holding needle, and k2tog through back loops\*; repeat between \*s across.

Sleeve

Put 21 (24/27) from waste yarn onto 3 dpns (7/8/9 on each), and with 4th dpn, pick up and knit 4 (5/6) sts in cast-on underarm stitches.(25/29/33 sts) Rounds 1-3: knit around. Round 4: purl around. Work Rounds 1-4 1 (2/3) times total, or to desired length before 3/8" (1 cm) sleeve border.

Sleeve Border

Round 1: knit around. Round 2: cast off purlwise. Make second sleeve same as first.

Finishing

Weave in yarn ends. Sew buttons to match buttonholes or attach ribbon at neck.

Blocking

Wet block to get deepest scallops. Wash, rinse, and wrap in towel to blot out water. Lay flat, and smooth into shape, pulling out scallops below yarn overs. Leave in place until thoroughly dry.
