Notions: Yarn - Debbie Bliss Como. 3 balls or blue sky alpaca bulky\*\*, 2 hanks. Gauge: 4" = 9.5 sts, 1" = 4 rows Hat Size: 19" Circular Needles: US #13 for rib, UU #15 for body DPNS: US size #15 Cable Needle 2, 1 - 1.5 inch buttons (optional) Note\*\* If using blue sky alpaca bulky: C0 34 sts. K1, P1 rib for 2 rows. Increase every other stitch for total of 68 sts. Start cable patterns.\*\* Pattern: CO: 46 sts on US #13 needles K1, P1 Ribbing for 2 rows Increase every 2 sts for a total of 68 sts. Switch to US size #15 needles For the remainder of the pattern I found it easier just to look at a list of which rows I needed to cable on vs. looking at an entire pattern string for each row. There are 12 rows in the pattern. The two st cables are on every other row alternating the 1st and 3rd cables on odd rows and the 2nd and 4th cables on even rows. All cables are separated by 4 purl stitches. Stitch pattern. Row 8: P2Tog 2 center Purl stitches in each section. Row 9: ssk on right side, K2tog on left side of 6 and 8 st cables. Row 10: P2tog, P1 in each purl section. ssk on right side, K2tog on left side of all 6 & 8 st cables. For 2 st cables 1st & 3rd K2Tog, 2nd &4th SSK. Row 11: K around in pattern. CB6 on the former 8 st cable. Row 12: K2tog or p2tog in pattern. For former 8 st cables SSK, K2Tog. For former 2 st cable. Just Knit 1. Row 13: K2tog around Row 14: K2Tog around (should end with 5 sts) Brim: PU 14 sts in front, centered on a cable. Row 1: purl across (wrong side) Row 2: K2, M1R, place marker, K10, place marker, M1L, K2, PU 2 sts Row 3: Purl across, PU 2 st Row 4: K to marker, M1R, K10, place marker, M1L, K1, PU 1 st Row 5: P across, PU 1 st Row 6: BO across to end of sts, pick up 1 st and bind it off to attach brim to hat edge. Band (Optional) Using size 13 needles CO 3 Row 1: K3 Row 2: K1, KFB, K1 Row 3: K1, P2, K1 Row 4: K1, K2Tog, YO, K1 Row 5: K1, P2, K1 Row 6: K across Repeat 5 and 6 until desired length ending on row 5. K1, K2Tog, YO, K1 K1, P2, K1 K1, K2Tog, K1 K3 BO Abbreviations: C4F: slip 2 stitches on a cable needle and hold in front of the work. K2 from the left needle. K2 from the cable needle.
