Starband Knitting Pattern: Intermediate Level Headband with Star Rib Mesh and Adjustable Fit

This functional knitted piece was designed using a beautiful star rib mesh pattern in the center panel. It is surrounded on both edges by garter stitches to help hold the headband in place. You can adjust the button band to ensure a perfect fit too!

Materials:

60 yards (55 meters) of dk weight yarn Sample knit out of Classic Elite Wool Bam Boo in color 1691 (118 yards/108 meters; 50% wool, 50% bamboo) Good yarn options: Classic Elite Wool Bam Boo, Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, Knit Picks Gloss DK Note about yarn/gauge: Because this headband is knit as a long strip, you can use a thinner or thicker weight of yarn and follow the pattern. If you use a thinner weight, your headband will not be as wide and if you use a thicker weight your headband will be wider. Regardless of yarn weight/gauge, you should follow all the length instructions to get the proper circumference. Bauge: 5.5 sts / 10 rows over Garter st = 1 inch

Needles:

US 6 (4mm) circulars or straights OR size needed to get gauge

Motions:

.75 to 1 inch button Needle to sew on button Row counter (optional) Safety pin (optional) Scissors 2 Stitch markers Tapestry needle

iging:

One size fits most. Starband measures 2.25 inches wide by 20 inches in length; the adjustable button band allows for it to be shortened or stretched to fit head size of 18-22 inches.

Albreviations Used:

BO = Bind Off CO = Cast On K, k = Knit k2tog = Knit 2 together P, p = Purl p2sso = pass 2 slipped stitches over the knit stitch pm = place marker RS = right side sl = slip slm = slip marker ssk = slip 2 sts knitwise & knit 2 together St st = Stockinette Stitch sts = stitches WS = wrong side yo = yarn over

Starband:

CO 13 sts using the long-tail cast on. Set-up row: K. Tip: Place the safety pin on the RS of your work. This will help you remember what row you are ready to work.

Buttonhole Section:

Row 1 (RS): K6, yo, k2tog, k5 Rows 2-8: K. Repeat these 8 rows 2 more times.

Star Rib Mesh Section:

Row 1 (RS): K. Row 2 (WS): K2, pm, p9, pm, k2. Row 3: K2, slm, k1, \*yo, sl 2 knitwise, k1, p2sso, yo, k1\* repeat \* to \* to marker, slm, k2. Row 4: K2, slm, p9, slm, k2. Row 5: K2, slm, ssk, yo, k1, yo, sl 2 knitwise, k1, p2sso, yo, kl, yo, k2tog, slm, k2. Row 6: K2, slm, p9, slm, k2. Repeat rows 3-6 until work measures 19 inches from CO edge.

Button Section:

Knit every row for 1 inch. BO in k on next WS row. Finish off and weave in all ends. Sew a button onto this section. Lightly block and enjoy wearing your new Starband!

For the smallest size, fold the buttonhole section in half and secure the button through the overlapping holes.
