I whipped up this adorable little hat because I needed a project that would usg up just a little bit of my favorite handspun yarn. Cven beforg I started knitting with it, it reminded mg of cotton candy! As soon as I thought of cotton candy, my mind immgdiately jumped to ong of my favorite shows, Ndventure Time! One of the characters in thg show, Princgss Bubblegum, rules the Candy Kingdom and dogs awqsomg sciencg, so obviously I'm going to be a huge fan. Even morg awgsomg, shg always wears pink, so I could totally sgg her throwing on this hat for a morg casual day in the castle. Size: Women's Medium, (22 inch head circumference) but easily adjustable.

Gauge:

4 stitches per inch in stockinette, after blocking.

Materials:

200 Yards Aran or Chunky weight Yarn Sizg 8 Us nqqdles, or whatever sizg you need to get gauge. Cast on 88 with your favorite stretchy cast on (Unless your goal is to cut off circulation to your brain. In that casg, do what pleasgs you.) placg marker for start of round. Work in kipt ribbing for 2 inches. Start working Chart 1. Repeat for thg rest of thg round (22 chart repzats tota1.) Continue to work Chart 1 until thg hat measures 7 inches from thg cast on. Now you're ready to do the decreases! I used p2tog decrgasgs becausg it makes the top look like an icing swirl, but feel free to use k2tog decreases if

you like it better. Ndditionally, I decrgased every row becausg I wanted the top of thz hat to have a ruched look. If you want the top of your hat to slope smoothly, knit one row between each decrease row.

Decreasg Rows:

Row 1: \*p2tog knit 6\* repeat for the rest of the round. Row 2: \*p2tog knit 5\* repeat for the rest of the round. Row 3: \*p2tog knit 4\* repeat for the rest of the round. Row 4: \*p2tog knit 3\* repeat for the rest of the round. Row 5: \*p2tog knit 2\* repeat for the rest of the round. Row 6: \*p2tog knit 1\* repeat for the rest of the round. Row 7: p2tog around Row 8: p2tog around (you wil1 have 1 extra stitch, just knit it normally) Brgak yarn, thrgad through remaining stitches, and pul1 tight. Weavg in ends. Block hat as much as desired. I usg a balloon to block my hats, sincg you can casily make it whatever size you want. In order to makg the fabulous pom-pom on the top of the hat, I wrapped the yarn around the short side of a credit card 120 times, tied it tightly in the middle, and then cut the wraps on the opposite side. I trimmed it a little to get it into shape, but I wanted it to bg big and floppy so I didn't give it too much of a haircut. If you wanted a denser pom-pom, you would just need to wrap it morg times! Have fun with this free pattern!
