Cuff
CO 40 sts using the long tail CO method, distribute the sts as follows: Needle 1 -15 sts Needle 2-15sts Needle 3 - 10 sts Join into a round being careful not to twist. Rnd 1: \*K2, P2\* repeat this for a total of 10 rnds. Rnd 1: \*K4, P1\* repeat every rnd until whole piece measures 7 inches (or desired lengtl
Heel Flap
This part of the sock is knitted on only some of the sts and the rest will join back in later. At the start of the rnd \*K4, P1\* 3 times, K4 (from next needle onto working needle), turn. You now have 19 sts on your needle, these will be used for the heel flap. Put the other 21 sts all on one needle, sts holder or scrap yarn - ignore them for now. To create the heel flap work back and forth on the 19 sts as follows: Row 1: (WS) sl 1 P-wise, P to end Row 2: (RS) sl 1 P-wise, \*sl 1, K1\* rep to end Continue to repeat these two rows until you have a total of 25 rows, ending on a Ws row.
Turn the Heel
Shape the heel as follows: Sl 1 P-wise, K11, SSK, turn, then... Row 1: Sl 1 P-wise, P5, P2tog, turn Row 2: SI 1 P-wise, K5, SSK, turn This continues until all sts have been incorporated and only 7 sts remain on the needle.
Instep
Knit across the 7 heel sts, then PU individually and knit 14 sts down the left side of the heel (PU through the SI sts). Put the other 21 sts back on one needle (if you'd put them on a holder) and knit the wide rib pattern across asfollows: P1 \*K4, P1\* 4 times Then PU individually and knit 14 sts down the right side of the heel. On your needles you should now have: Needle 1 - 21 sts (7 heel and 14 side) Needle 2 - 21 sts (top of foot) Needle 3 - 14 sts (other side of heel) Total of 56 sts, this now needs to decrease back down to 40 sts.
Gusset and Instep
Rnd 1: Needle 1 - K across until 3 sts are left then K2tog, K1. Needle 2 - P1 \*K4, P1\* 4 times. Needle 3 - K1, SSK, K to end of needle. Rnd 2: Needle 1 - K Needle 2- P1 \*K4, P1\* 4 times Needle 3 - K Repeat these two rnds until you have: Needle 1 - 13 sts (7 heel and 6 side) Needle 2 - 21 sts (top of foot) Needle 3 - 6 sts (side of heel)
Foot
Rnd 1: K13, P1 \*K4, P1\* 4 times, K6 Repeat this round until it measures the desired foot length minus about 1.5 inches / 4 cm. This will be approx. 14 cm from corner of heel to needle for a UK 3 foot. Try it on occasionally to test it out.
Toe
Rnd 1-3: K Divide sts so there are 20 sts for top of foot on N1 and 20 sts for bottom of foot on N2 and K round to top of foot, this will be the new start. Decrease toe as follows on each needle: \*K1, SSK, Kto 3 sts before end of needle, K2tog, K\* repeat until 20 sts remain (10 on each needle). Cut yarn leaving a long tail and thread onto tapestry needle. Graft sts together using Kitchener Stitch as follows: 1. Set Up - Hold needles parallel with bottom of foot to back and yarn tail on last st of the back needle, set up by taking tapestry needle through first st on front needle purl-wise, leave st on needle. Then, take tapestry needle through first st on back needle knit-wise, leave st on needle. Try to keep tension even. 2. Kitchener Stitch - Thread t.needle through first st on front needle knit wise and slip off, thread t.needle through next st on front needle purl-wise and leave on needle, thread t.needle through first st on back needle purl-wise and slip off, thread t.needle through next st on back needle purl-wise. 3. Repeat Kitchener Stitch until one st on back needle remains, thread needle through purlwise, slip off and pass t.needle through to inside of sock and weave in end.
