@ 2012 by Joy Haworth Malabrigo Sock Yarn or appropriate solid/semi-solid substitute XS/S = approx 130-150 yards M/L = approx 145-165 yards Gauge taken in stockinette in the round - 15 sts & 22 rows in 2” on 2.5mm needles Notions: small yarn needle for weaving in ends and/or grafting 4 stitch markers (2 each in 2 different colors) - double this if you're working the mitts 2 @a time Abbreviations: CO - cast on st(s) - stitch(es) k - knit p- purl k2tog - knit two sts together ssk - slip slip knit (slip next st as if to knit 2x, then knit the 2 sts together yo - yarn over tw yo - twisted yarn over (also known as backward loop cast on) pm - place marker sm - slip marker C1L - cable 1 stitch left C1R - cable 1 stitch right Directions for M/L given in parentheses Pattern: CLUE 1. (all charts on page 5) cO 44(48) sts using a long tail cast on and join for working in the round Round 1-5. knit Round 6. \*k2tog, yo\* repeat from \* to \* across Round 7-11. knit Round 12. fold, right side out, & knit 1 st together with the corresponding loop from the long tail cast on: see youtube video embedded in post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbp-4ttSNis&feature=youtube_gdata_player (Sorry about the not great video but I had nowhere but my lap to balance the iPad) Round 13. \*k1, tw yo, k20(22), tw yo, k1\* repeat from \* to \* across. 48(52) sts Round 14-17. knit Round 18. purl Round 19. knit Round 20. purl Or 1 of stitch markers will be referred to as "m-a" and color 2 as "m-b". Round 21-24. knit Round 25 Left Mitt. k5(6), pm-a, k15, pm-a, k11(13), pm-b, k12, pm-b, k4(5) Round 25 Right Mitt. k4(5), pm-a, k15, pm-a, k11(13), pm-b, k12, pm-b, k5(6) Round 26-42. knit to first marker, sm-a, work Chart 1, sm-a, knit to next marker, sm-b, work appropriate Chart 2, sm-b, knit to end of round. You will end this clue on round 7 of Chart 2 after repeating the center section 2x. You will have worked one full repeat of Chart 1. Tip: I suggest checking the front chart (Chart 1) to make sure you still have the correct number of stitches (15) between set m-a frequently, as I found myself missing YOs now & then and having to rip back. CLUE 3. Round 43-55. knit to first marker, sm-a, work Chart 1, sm-a, knit to next marker, sm-b, work appropriate Chart 2 - continuing to repeat Rows 6-10, sm-b, knit to end of round. After Round 55 you will have finished Row 13 on Chart 1 & Row 10 on Chart 2. Round 56-57. knit to first marker, sm-a, work Chart 1 (Rows 14-15), sm-a, knit to next marker, sm-b, work final 2 rows of appropriate Chart 2, sm-b, knit to end of round. Round 58. knit to first marker, sm-a, work next row of Chart 1, sm-a, knit to next marker, remove marker, knit to next marker, remove marker, knit to end of round. Round 59 Left Mitt. k1, tw yo, pm-b, knit to next marker, sm-a, work last row of Chart 1, sm-a, knit to last st, pm-b, tw yo, k1. Round 59 Right Mitt. knit to first marker, sm-a, work last row of Chart 1, sm-a, k4(5), pm-b, tw yo, k2, tw yo, pm-b, knit to end of round. CLUE 4. Round 60. knit to m-a, sm-a, work Chart 1 (3rd repeat), sm-a, knit to end of round. Round 61. work Chart 1 between m-a. between m-b: tw yo, knit to second m-b, tw yo. knit all other sts. Round 62-77(79). Repeat these two rounds 8(9)x. (On size M/L the last repeat will have plain knit st between m-a.) fer thumb gusset sts (all sts between m-b) to waste yarn or stitch holdel \*Round 78(80). co 2, knit across. Round 79(81)-83(85). knit\* Round 84(86). purl CLUE 5. Round 87(89)-92(94). knit Repeat Rounds 84(86)-91(93) once more Slide all hand sts onto waste yarn, a spare needle cable or another set of needles the same size or smaller. CLUE 6. Thumb Round 1. Transfer thumb stitches back to needles. Join new yarn and knit across, picking up 2 sts in the 2 sts that were cast on at the body of the glove. Round 2-6. knit Round 7. purl Round 8. knit Round 9. purl Round 10-14. knit Bind off all sts. weave in ends.
