This pattern is worked from the top down and finished with a long chain bind off. Beading is optional but will add weight to the edge and help the shawl hang more gracefully. The pictured shawl used 40 grams of a 50 gram skein. A video illustrating the long chain bind off can be found at: http://youtu.be/1B_zZMNEdfU Setting Up Cast on 5 stitches.

Finishing
Measure off 20 yards (18 m) of remaining yarn from last stitch knit and cut from skein. String 201 beads onto the end of the yarn still attached to the shawl. Wind the 20 yards of yarn onto a piece of cardboard, pushing beads towards the last stitch on the needles. (This will help control the yarn as you work the bind off.)

Holding shawl with right side facing you, insert the crochet hook in the first stitch on the needle as if to knit, draw a loop through the stitch, and slip the stitch off the needle. Draw three beads up the yarn close to the crochet hook. Loosely chain 6, inserting beads in the first, third, and fifth chain. Slip hook through the back loops of the next 3 stitches on the needle, wrap yarn around hook, and draw the yarn through the 3 stitches, slipping them off the needle (2 stitches on crochet hook). Wrap yarn around hook and draw yarn through 2 stitches on crochet hook (1 stitch on hook). \*Draw three beads up the yarn close to the crochet hook. Loosely chain 7, inserting beads in the second, fourth, and sixth chain. Slip hook through the back loops of the next 4 stitches on the needle, wrap yarn around hook, and draw the yarn through the 4 stitches, slipping them off the needle (2 stitches on crochet hook). Wrap yarn around hook and draw yarn through 2 stitches on crochet hook (1 stitch on hook).\* (Note: You can view a video of this step at http://youtu.be/1B_zZMNEdfU) Repeat from \* to \* to last 3 stitches. Slip hook through the back loops of the last 3 stitches on the needle, wrap yarn around hook, and draw the yarn through the 3 stitches, slipping them off the needle (2 stitches on crochet hook). Wrap yarn around hook and draw yarn through 2 stitches on crochet hook (1 stitch on hook). Bind offlast stitch. Using cast on tail, sew together the first and fifth stitch of the first row and weave in end. Weave in bind off tail. Block to measurements. Use pins or blocking wires to pin out chain loops on border and bottom point.
