Superb Owl Cowle

Test knit, photo and cover model: Lyns88 on Ravelry Stephen Colbert fans will understand this pattern's name. The Superbowl people would have sued The Colbert Report for copyright infringement if they used the term “Superbowl without permission. So, the brilliant people at “The Report’ came up with this great alternative, and it lined up with my designing the owl hat. Turns out knitters are crazy for owls, so I then worked up patterns for Owl mitts and an Owl felted bag. Then Lyns88 asked for an owl cowl. What a hoot! Great cowl, too! The Cowl can be knitted as wide and as long as you want. Knit it 48" around and you can double it and wear it as a neck warmer. Because it is stranded and knit in the-round, it has extra wool layers for cozy warmth. Size: Knitter's choice. Make it as long as you want. Cover cowl is approx. 48" around, allowing it to be doubled and worn as a neck warmer. Materials: 100 grams of any dark brown fingering-weight wool 150 grams of tan or light brown fingering-weight wool OPTIONAL gold 6mm beads for eyes and a small crochet hook for applying them One 29" circular #3 needle Stitch marker 7 stitches and 30 rounds = 4"” using #3 needles, but gauge is not important he1 Instructions: CO 312 sts for 48" cowl. Or CO desired number of sts, in multiples of 24, for desired cowl circumference. Join to work in the round, placing marker and taking care not to twist stitches. Begin following chart repeating motif as many times as CO st-count requires (13 repeats for 312 sts). Follow CHART for 80 rounds. BO loosely, and sew seam together. Finishing: Soak and block flat, making edges crisp between front and back.
