It is very easy to knit these socks and because the ribs used are changing frequently they knit up very fast, too. Because the pattern can be knit from memory these socks are ideal for knitting in front of the TV, in public transport, at the doctor's or at the hairdresser's. Just one more row... I think they look particularly well with self-striping sock yarn.

Materials:
Yarn:
any sock yarn will do, preferably self-striping yarn (I used Opal Hundertwasser Werk 697 Regentag auf liebe Wellen).
recommended needle size:
2 circular needles size 3mm or any needles you like to knit socks with
notions:
1 tapestry needle

Key to chart: The pattern has a repeat of 8 stitches. These are shown in the encased grid (I wrote down a bigger part of the pattern because then it is easier to imagine how the knitting will come out.).
Pattern:
Cast on 64 stitches in any manner you like and join in the round being careful not to twist. Work 2/2 ribbing for 16 rows or 3 cm. Change to pattern and work pattern 8 times (per round) for 15 cm or how long you want the body of the leg to be. Then work your heel. I worked a heel flap over half the number of stitches. eel flap over 32 stitches (back and forth). Work this fap in the manner you like bes I like to work garter stitch for the first few stitches in every row, first because then I can keep better track of my rows and second because it makes it easier for me to pick up the stitches of the instep within those little knots that appear at the sides of your work. It looks like this: First row: Knit 2, [slip 1 purlwise, knit 1] until two stitches before the end of the row, Knit 2 Second row: Knit 2, purl 28, knit 2 Repeat these two rows until you have 30 rows. Then turn the heel: First row (RS): Knit 2, [slip 1 purlwise, knit 1] nine times, slip1, ssk the following two stitches, turnwork Second row ( WS): Slip 1, purl 10, purl 2 tog Third row (RS): Slip 1, [knit 1, slip 1 purlwise] four times, slip 1, ssk the following two stitches Work second and third row in the manner established, until there are 12 stitches on the needle. Next row: RS facing, sl 1, [k 1, slip 1 purlwise] five times, knit 1 Pick up 15 stitches along the edge of the heel flap, one for every second row that you have worked They will be easy to notice because you can pick them up within the little knots at the edge. Pick up one stitch between the end of the heel flap and the 32 stitches on the other needle. Work pattern on the second needle. Pick up one stitch between the pattern on the needle just used and the other needle. Then pick up 15 stitches along the edge of the heel flap. Knit the remaining 28 stitches. You have now 44 stitches on this needle. If you work with five double pointed needles divide them up in 22 and 22 stitches. The beginning of the row is between those two needles. ;t of the foot, work stockinette stitch on that needle and pattern on the other needle Start working the instep on the following round: Work pattern on the second needle. Knit 41, knit 2 tog, knit 1. Work pattern on second needle. Knit 1, ssk, knit to the end of the needle. Work pattern on second needle. Knit 39, knit 2 tog, knit 1. Work pattern on the second needle. Knit 1, ssk, knit to the end of the needle. ng in the manner established until you have 32 stitches on the needle. End of instej Work foot. Pattern on second needle, stockinette on first needle until foot measures about 12 cm (measurement taken after the instep). Work toe. Change to stockinette and start working the toe first on the needle on which you knitted the sole of yoursock. You can knit any toe you like, I prefer this version: First round of decreasing: (needle 1 - sole) Knit 29, knit 2 tog, knit 1 (needle 2 - top of foot) knit 1, ssk, knit 25, knit 2 tog, knit 1 (needle 1 - sole) knit 1, ssk. You have now decreased four stitches. Knit three rounds and start you next decreasing round in the manner established above. [Knit 2 rounds, decrease another four stitches.] twice [Knit 1 round, decrease another four stitches.] three times Decrease in every following row until you have 8 stitches. Divide those stitches in that way on the needles that the opposite stitches are facing and graft them together using the kitchener stitch. Weave in the ends. Block. Enjoy.
