5.5mm/US9hook 1 ball of bright coloured DK wool 1 ball black DK wool Wool needle for sewing/weaving in ends This pattern is written in UK terms, US terms will be in brackets. Start with a magic loop/adjustable ring Round 1: 6 tr (dc) into magic loop/adjustable ring, join with a slip stitch - 6sts Round 2: Ch 3 and 1 tr (dc) into 1st tr (dc), 2 tr (dc) into each tr (dc) around - 12 sts, join with slip stitch. For a neat colour change, without that little blip you can sometimes get changing colour in a slip stitch, try this method by Edie Eckman; 1. Using the old colour, join round with a slip stitch. Using new colour, chain the number of build-up stitches required, plus one. Pull the tail of the old colour to tighten the slip stitch, making it indiscernible. 2. The extra chain will slide down in place of the slip stitch and you'll have the correct number of stitches appearing in the new colour. Round 3: Ch 1, dc (sc) into same st, dc (sc) in next st, htr (hdc) in next st, 3 tr (3dc) in next st, htr (hdc) in next st, dc (sc) in next st, \* dc (sc) in next 2 sts, htr (hdc) in next st, 3 tr (3dc) in next st, htr (hdc) in next st, dc (sc) in next st\*, repeat from \* to \* twice more, join with a slip stitch and fasten off.
Subsequent squares
For all subsequent squares, in Round 3 when the corner about to be worked is the corner that is to be joined to the previous square, work the 2nd tr (dc) of the 3 tr (dc) corner to 2 loops on hook. Keep wool to the left of hook and push hook through the middle of the corner on the previous square from front to back, yo, pull through and carry on through rem 2 loops on hook to complete the stitch - squares joined. Do this for the other corner and each square is then joined at two points. Length of scarf is personal preference, one row, two rows, squares are all joined in the sameway. When the scarf length is complete, join with black in any stitch and do a row of dc (sc) in each st all the way around (approx 10 per square), slip stitch to join and fasten off. Enjoy.
