Fun & free pattern to fashionably warm your shivering legs By: Adri H.
Skills
Flexible Cast-on (ex. cable cast-on) Knitting in the round Ribbing
Right Legwarmer
Folded Top Ribbed Cuff
CO 64 sts onto dpns or circs. Mark the beg of rnd and join for working in the round. K2, P2 rib for 3"/ 8cm.
Eyelet Round
At 3" / 8cm there is an eyelet rnd for the cord holes as follows: K2,P2 rib for 24 sts, then K2tog, YO, P2, K2tog, YO, cont in K2,P2 rib to end of rnd. Cont K2, P2 rib in pattern for 8.5" / 21.5cm.
Set-up for Cable Charts
If changing colors, here is where you do it. Change yarns (if this is new to you...http://www..videojug.com/film/ how-to-change-yarn). With the new color yarn, P one rnd (64sts total).
Increase Round
Next rnd, inc 2 sts: K48, M1, K10 ,M1, K6 (66sts total) Divide sts between the 3 dpns or place a marker after the indicated sts to mark the 3 sections: N1=20 sts, N2= 22 sts, N3= 24 sts. Note most likely you will be folding over the top half of the legwarmer so be aware of which side you weave in your ends.
Cables
Charts are read from the bottom to the top, and from right to left. Begin by working 12 sts in BACK PANEL chart row 1 (K1, P1, K8, P1, K1) then work RIGHT PANEL chart row 1 (K1, P1, K4, P2, C1F, P2, K4, P1, K1) 3 times total. 12 sts in BACK PANEL and 54sts are worked in RIGHT PANEL. Cont working rows 2 through 24 of BACK PANEL and RIGHT PANEL until you have knitted \~8" / 20cm in pattern. For a longer legwarmer, cont to rep the chart motifs until you have reached your desired length.
Bottom Ribbed Cuff
K1, P1 rib for 8 rows to cre-ate the flair at the bottom of the legwarmer. For a tighter fit around the ankles, dec 10 sts (or 2" worth of sts) evenly in the next rnd, and then continue in K1,P1 rib for 10 rnds.
Finishing
BO knitwise. Weave in all the ends with your tapestry needle and secure yarns from the initial color change.
Left Legwarmer
Essentially the same as the right legwarmer except the cables are reversed.
Ribbed Cuff
CO 64 sts onto 3 dpns (N1 = 22 sts, N2 = 22 sts, N3 = 20 sts).
Eyelet Round
At 3" / 8cm the eyelet rnd for the cord holes: K2,P2 rib for 48st, then K2tog, YO, P2, K2tog, YO, cont in rib to end of rnd.
Increase Round
Inc 2 sts evenly on N1 (66 sts total). Divide sts between three needles: N1= 24 sts, N2= 22 sts, N3= 20 sts or use markers to denote the three sections.
Cables
Beg working BACK PANEL row 1, then work LEFT PANEL row 1, and rep chart LEFT PANEL 2 more times (54sts worked in LEFT PANEL and 12 sts worked in BACK PANEL). Instead of cabling to the front as in RIGHT PANEL, the left legwarmer is cabled to the back (see LEFT PANEL chart). This creates a mirrored cable motif. Finish as with the Right Legwarmer. Then make your cords and weave in through the eyelets and fold the cuff.

Making the Cords
Crochet:
Make a single crochet chain for approx 24" / 61cm. Measure around your own leg to be sure you can stil tie a bow.
Knit:
Make an i-cord by casting 3 sts onto a dpn. Knit the row. Slide stitches to opposite end of dpn without turning the work, knit row, repeat until desired length. Make the i-cord 24" / 61cm long. Weave the cord into place on legwarmer. Create a knot on both ends of the cord. Helpful videos on www.knittinghelp.com/videos/ knitting-tips
