Granny Square (make 2)
Ch 4, sl st in beg ch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch3 (counts as frst dc),2dc inring, ch2, (3d inring, ch2)tre tmes jin t $3^{\mathtt{f d}}$ ch of begch3. $\r=$ Four clusters of 3dc, one per side Rnd 2: (Ch3, 2dc in ch2 sp just made,first halfof corner), ch1, [(3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch2 sp, ch1] makes the next corner. Repeat between [] two more times, (3 dc in first ch2 sp,ch2,slsto $3^{\mathrm{rd}}$ ch of beg ch3, makes second half of corner). $\risingdotseq$ Eightclustersof3dc, twoperside. Rnd 3: First half of corner, ch1, 3dc in ch1 space of previous rnd, ch1, (corner in ch2 sp, 3dc in ch1 space, ch1) repeat 3 times, make second half of corner and join. $=12$ clusters of 3dc, three per side. Rnds $4-8$ : Continue in like manner, increasing one cluster of 3dc per side on each rnd. Ending with 32 clusters (8 per side), one ch between each cluster and 2chs in each corner. Rnd 9: Ch3, skip first dc, [dc in each dc and ch across side, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch2 space of corner] four times, join. Cut, leaving a 5-inch tail to weave in later. Set aside. Total of 140dc and 8chs (35dc and 2ch per side). Side and Bottom Piece (make 1) Ch115,turn Row 1:Dcin $7^{\mathrm{th}}$ ch from hook, [ch1, skip 1 ch, de in next ch] 16 times $(=17$ chl spaces). Dc in next 42 chs (a section of 43 dc). Repeat between [] 17 times (17 more ch1 spaces made).Turn. Rows 2 13: Ch4 (counts as dc and ch1), skip dc that ch is coming from,{dc in dc,ch1} 16 times, dc in next 43 dc, ch1, {dc in next dc, ch1} 16 times, skip 1ch, dc in next ch. Turn,do not cut.
Assembly
Holdingranny quarwong sidu,uderidandottmpiecematch stith7 per side,111 sts total).Sc the two pieces together around 3 sides of granny square.The bottom section of 43dc should start joining on the last 2dc of the first granny square side and end 2dcintothe $3^{\mathrm{rd}}$ side of the granny square.The ridge created by the sc join should be on the outside of the bag. Cut, leaving a 5-inch tail to weave in later. Repeat withothrgranny squaremaking suretheright sidesface theutsidefthag. Cut and weave in all the ends.
Handles (make 2)
Ch52.Dc in $4^{t h}$ ch from hook and remaining 48ch. Do not turn.Rev sc across top of dcs. Cut, leaving a long enough tail to sew handle onto bag. Rev sc across all sts on bottom edge of handle. Cut, leaving a tail long enough to sew handle onto bag. Sew handles onto top edge of granny square starting at the $7^{\mathrm{th}}$ dc from both corners and working toward center.
