Work pattern to one stitch before end of sole. Turn. Knit side facing, yarn-over on working needle. Work to one stitch less than before. Turn. Continue this sequence: yarn-over at the beginning of row, end row by working one less stitch than before, until 8 sts remain on sole. The last turn will bring the knit side facing. Yarn-over and work up to the first available yarn-over on the far side. Now you are working the sole of the sock. Knit the next stitch together with the yarn-over to the right of it. This willdivide the stitch/yarn-over pair, leaving a yarn-over as the next loop on the left needle. Turn. Purl side facing. yarn-over and pur to first available yarn-over on the next hee needle. Join this yarn-over with the next stitch on the left needle with SSP as follows. Reverse stitch mount of the next two loops on the left needle. SSP through back loops. Turn. Knit side facing. yarn-over and knit to first available yarn-over on the next needle. The next two loops on the left needle are both yarn-overs K3tog, joining the two yarn-overs with the next stitch on the left needle. Turn. Purl side facing, yarn-over and purl to first available yarn-over on the next heel needle. The next two loops on the left needle are yarn-overs. These are joined with the next stitch on the left needle as SSSP. Turn. Continue until all the yarn-overs of the heel back have been consumed in the decrease of the heel base. The last stitch on each side will consume two yarn-overs. Each turn will also require one yarn-over. Thus, there will be a single yarn-over at the end of each of the two heel needles. On the last turn, the knit side will be facing. Yarn-over and knit across the heel to the yarn-over ending the heel needles. Move this yarn-over to the next (instep) needle. Begin that needle with a k2tog decrease that joins the yarn-over with the first stitch. Work across the instep needles to the last stitch on the second instep needle. Place the yarn-over on the next heel needle onto the instep needle and join the final instep stitch with this yarn-over using a SSK decrease. Be sure that you have the proper stitch mounts on both decreases. Heel is now complete. Sock foot You may continue the pattern on the top of the foot, or not as desired. Work foot until 7 1/4" or 2" less than desired length. Toe Row 1: Needles #1 & #3, K1, ssk, knit to end of needle. Needles #2 & #4, k1, k2tog, knit to end of needle. Row 2: Knit.
