16" US 06 circular needles 16" US 08 circular needles US 08 dp needles Other tools: stitch marker, darning needle Gauge: 16 stitches x 22 rows = 4" square Abbreviations used: k- knit k2tog - knit two stitches together p - purl NOTE: When changing yarn colors in the stripe areas, twist or wrap the two yarns. Drop the 1st yarn, twist the 2nd (new) yarn under the 1st yarn and bring it up to continue knitting with the new yarn. The twist will interlock the two yarns so there won't be get a gap. Adjust the tension of the stitches at the join as needed.
Begin pattern:

With cream, knit around once. 16. With black, [K4, k2tog] around. - 48 stitches 17. With cream, knit around once. 18. With black, [K3, k2tog] around once. - 40 stitches 19.
