Individual colorwork motifs from Sheila McGregor's Traditional FairIsleKnitting and Traditional ScandinavianKnitting
Yarn:
4-ply wool yarn in four colors [pattern will work best with a neutral + three shades of one color];: 50g of each will be more than enough, this would be a good use for leftovers and partial balls [shown in discontinued Rowan 4 Ply Soft, shades 378, 390, 395 and Rowan Cashsoft 4 Ply shade433]
Needles:
16" circular needles, 2.25mm and 3.0mm Gauge: 34 st and 35 rounds = 4" in stranded colorwork, blocked Finished Size: 11.5" height x 21.5" circumference

Directions:
CO 180 sts in ribbing color and larger needles. Join to knit in the round and immediately switch to smaller needles. PM and knit 10 rows in Fancy Moss Stitch Rib, as shown below.
Fancy Moss Stitch Rib:
Rib Chart: R1: \*k5, p1, rep from \* to end of round R2: \*k4, p1, k1, rep from \* to end of round

Switch to larger needles and work from chart, repeating each row of chart 5 times to create one full round. After last round [R88] of colorwork chart, switch back to smaller needles and work 10 rows of Fancy Moss Stitch Rib. Bind off in 4x2 rib with smaller needles. Weave in ends and wet block to even out colorwork. Enjoy your classic colorwork cowl with reindeer! Or maybe moose.
