Seaside Bunting Socks

Rated as easy, this is a project that uses basic stitches, repetitive stitch patterns and simple shaping and finishing. Adapted from Barbara Walker's "A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns"- Swing Stitch Materials: any fingering/ sock yarn with approx400m/ 100g , the model used Lorna's Laces Shepherds Sockyarn Needles, either circular or DPNs, US size 1 1/2 or metric 2.50mm Markers TapestryNeedle Gauge: 8 sts to1 inch over stocking stitch medium/large sock. Cuff
The cuff uses a mistaken rib pattern
Cast on (56) 64 sts, using a stretchy cast-on. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Divide the stitches between the needles and place a stitch marker for the start of the round. Work the pattern as follows, or the rib chart 7 (8) times across each round for 12 rounds. Row 1: \*k2, p2, k2, p2\* repeat from \* to \* 7 (8) times Row 2: \*k1, p2, k2, p2, k1\* repeat from \* to \*7 (8) times Row 3: \*k2, p2, k2, p2\* repeat from \* to \* 7 (8) times Row 4 : \*k1, p2, k2, p2, k1\* repeat from \* to \* 7 (8) times Medium size only: Knit 1 round, decreasing 1 stitches evenly across the round [55 sts]. Large size only: Knit 1 round, increasing 2 stitches evenly across the round [66 sts].
Leg

Heel Flap

Work the heel flap over the next 27 sts as follows, or the centre of the heel chart between the dark borders 4 times, remembering to slip the first stitch of each row worked purlwise Large size only: Rearrange the stitches on the needles, so that there are 33 stitches on the first needle to form the heel flap. Work the heel flap as follows, or the centre of the heel chart between the dark borders 5 times, remembering to slip the first stitch of each row worked purlwise. Both sizes: When working these two rows, refer to the key for directions about the use of the abbreviation wyib. Row 1 (RS): slip wyib, k1, to the last stitch, slip wyib, Row 2 (WS): slip wyib, p to end Repeat these 2 rows 13 times each, 26 rows in total
Turn Heel
When working these rows, refer to the key for directions about the use of the abbreviation wyib. Turn heel as follows: Row 1 (RS): slip wyib, k15 (k17), ssk, k1, turn the work Row 2 (WS): slip wybf, p6 (p4), p2tog, p1 Row 3: slip wyib, k to 1 stitch before the gap from the prevous row, ssk to close the gap, k1, turn Row 4: slip wyib, p to 1 stitch before the gap from the prevous row, p2tog, to close the gap, p1,turn Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all stitches have been worked [17 sts (19 sts)].
Gussets
Shape the gussets as follows Medium size only: Row 1: Knit all stitches on needle 1 [17 sts], pick up 14 stitches along the side of the heel to form the gusset, place marker, k3, work 22 sts as set for the leg pattern, k3, place marker. Pick up a further 14 stitches along the edge of the heel [73 sts] Large size only: Row 1: Knit allstitches on needle 1 [19 sts], pick up 14 stitches along the side of the heel to form the gusset, place marker, work 33 sts as set for the leg, place marker. Pick up a further 14 stitches along the edge of the heel [80 sts]. Both sizes: Row 2: Knit to 3 stitches before the first marker, k2 tog, k1, slip marker, k1, knit pattern as set 2 (3) times to the stitch before the next marker, k1, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to end. Row 3: Knit pattern as set Repeat these rounds until (57sts) 66 sts remain. Work the pattern as set until the sock measures 2" less than the required sock length, ending with a knit round. Re-arrange the stitches on the needles so that there are 28 sts (33 sts) for the top of the foot are on one needle and will be worked first when shaping the toe, and 27 sts (33 sts) for the sole on the other(s).
Toe
Shape the toe: Medium size only: Row 1: k1, ssk, K11, K2 tog, K10 knit to the last 3 sts on needle 1, k2 tog , k1. k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.
