Materials: approximately 87 yards of bulk weight yarn. 1 skein for hat in solids. 2 or more for stripes. shown here in Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, Loops & Threads Cozy Wool, and Universal Yarn Classic Shades Big Time. Size 10.5 needles in 16" circs and DPN's, stitch marker, and a crochet hook or darning needle for weaving in ends.

Instructions:

For Stripes: Using color A, cast on 56 stitches using long-tail, rocket, or cable cast on (for stretch!) Place stitch marker and join to knit in round. \*K2, P2\* for 10 rows. Break yarn. With color B, \*K2, P2\* for 5 rows. Break yarn. With color A, \*K2, P2\* for 3 rows. Break yarn. With color B, \*K2, P2\* until hat measures 9" from cast-on edge.

Finishing:

1) \*K2, P2tog\* around 2) \*K2, P1\* around 3) \*K2tog, P1\* around 4) \*K1, P1\* around Break yarn. Thread tail through live stitches and cinch top of hat closed. Weave in ends. Add a pompom if desired. Give it away to keep somebody warm!
