Each row of the FIRST chart is worked, reading right to left to the center stitch, (hatched background) which is worked once. The row is then worked left to right. Repeat the chart row sufficient times to complete the round. (The exception is row one) The second chart is worked more conventionaly - notice the repeats on either side of the central stitch increase by one with each vertical repeat. Note also the special stitches on this chart. blank = knit 0 = yarnover V = knit front & back w = k1,O, k1 in single stitch B = bind off p = purl W = knit 3 tog M = k3tog tble <1 = move start of round (and any associated markers) one stitch left A = slip 2 together as if to knit, knit one, pass slipped stitches over = s2kp cross-hatched background - work only once : knit unless contains another symbol grey background = knit 1 if on the first or last repeat of a group. Knit the knits, purl the purls, knit the yarnovers.
