Base
For the base, you will use the yarn of similar color to the ribbon yarn. Round 1 10 sc in a magic ring. Join with a sl st. (10 sc) Note: do not weave this end in. We will use this later. Round 2 ch 2. 1 dc blo in the same stich. 2 dc in blo around. Join with a sl st. (20 dc) Round 3 ch 1. 1 sc in blo of the same stich. 1 sc blo in the next stitch. (2 sc, 1 sc) blo around. Join with a sl st. (30 sc). Finish off. If you are going to sew the flower onto something, leave a long tail for sewing the flower down.

When you're finished, you'll have something looking like this.
Flower
For the flower, you will use the Red Heart Boutique Ribbons yarn. Note: if you have never worked with this yarn before, you will notice it is in a hank form and is not wound in a ball like most other yarns. There is a YouTube video about undoing it. Also, you will never touch the ribbon portion of the yarn with your hook. The only portion you will crochet with is the ladder portion. Each open ladder will be Onestich Round 1 Insert your hook into the first full ladder opening. Then insert your hook into the blo of any sc. Insert your hook into the next open ladder section, and preform a sl st. 1 sl st in blo around. Do not join.

Round 2 Still working in the last sc round, 1 sl st in flo around. Do not join.

Round 3 Moving to the dc round, 2 sl st in flo around. Do not join.

Round 4 2 sl st around the dc post. Work 2 sl st around each dc post all the way around. Do not join.

Round 5 1 sl st in flo of the sc round. Because it's a little hard to see the stiches in this yarn, leave your hook in the last stich to finish off.

Finishing off
Thread your yarn needle with the tail from the magic ring. Bring the yarn up through the center of the magic ring and through the loop on your hook. Bring the yarn back though the center and tie it off. When cutting the ribbon yarn, make sure you cut the yarn through the NEXT ladder section from where you finished it off.

Variations
If you would like a slightly smaller flower, skip the first set of sc in the first round. Instead, for the base, start with 10 dc in a magic ring and join with a sl st. ch 1, 2 sc blo in each dc around and join with a sl st. finish off. For the flower, follow the same pattern but finish off after the 2 sl st around the post of the dc in the base. Approximate size: 3.5 inches in diameter.

If you would like a slightly larger flower, just add rows of sc blo around the base in an increasing pattern until the desired diameter is reached. Follow the flower pattern and sl st flo in each round of sc. Size with vary. You can use these for flowers on headbands, hats, hair barrettes, pins or broaches. You can also make these bows for presents. You can make these Christmas tree ornaments. On the last round, before you join with a sl st, chain a desired amount and then join with a sl st. You may even consider making two and sewing them together. You may want to add a little stuffing between the layers.
