Meret Mitts

Make these mitts in worsted to match your Meret Beret (by Woolly Wormhead on Ravelry), or work them in chunky for a heavier mitt. The cuffs, palm and thumb are 1 x 1 rib, so these mitts are snug and warm. Skills: Knit in the round on double point needles, basic lace Size: Adult

Materials

Yarn: 120 yds Medium weight (4) or 100 yds Bulky weight (5) Shown in Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage, Cove; Berroco Vintage Chunky, Douglas Fir; Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky, WinterWhite and OceanicMix Needles: Us 7/4.5 mm dpn or size to obtain gauge Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers Gauge: 18 sts = 4" (10 cm) in unblocked stockinette. Gauge must be accurate to ensure correctfit.

1. Directions use standard knitting abbreviations. Go to YarnStandards.com to reference. 2. Right and left mitts are worked the same except for gusset.

KNITTING DIRECTIONS—Left Mitt Wrist Cuff

CO 32 sts (13 st lace patt plus 19 st rib). Divide sts on 3 dpn as follows: 8, 14, 10. Join to work in round, pm to mark beg of rnd. Work in rib for 2" as follows: \*K1, p1; rep from \*.

Lower Hand

Work in rib as established for 8 sts, work Rnd 1 of Meret Lace (13 sts), then work to end of rnd in rib (11sts) beg with p1. Beg and end every rnd with rib as established, work Rnds 2-10 Meret Lace.

Work all rib sts in mitt as established. Work sts between gusset markers in rib maintaining center knit st even if there is a purl st on both sides of the gusset marker.

Left Thumb Gusset

Rnd 1—Rib 4 sts, pm, yo, k1, yo, pm, rib 3 sts, Meret Lace Rnd 1, rib to end of rnd. (3 gusset sts) Rnd 2—Rib to m, sl m, p1, k1, p1, sl m, rib 3 sts, Meret Lace Rnd 2, rib to end of rnd. Rnd 3—Rib to m, sl m, yo, rib to m, yo, sl m, rib 3 sts, Meret Lace Rnd 3, rib to end of rnd. (5 gusset sts) Rnd 4—Rib to m, sl m, rib to marker, sl m, rib 3 sts, Meret Lace Rnd 4, rib to end of rnd. Rnds 5-10—Cont as established, with gusset yo on odd rnds, rib, and Meret Lace Rnds 5-10. (11 gusset sts) Next Rnd—Rib to m, remove marker, move 11 gusset sts to waste yarn, remove marker, backward loop C0 3, join to work in rnd, rib 3 sts, Meret Lace Rnd 1, rib to end of rnd. (34 sts)

Upper Hand

Cont even in rib and Meret Lace Rnds 2-10 as established. Rib for 1". BO in patt.

Thumb

Transfer sts from waste yarn to 2 dpn. With 3rd dpn, pick up (but do not knit) 3 sts through front loops of cO sts across gap at gusset. This will create holes like the yo along gusset. (14 sts) Attach yarn and work in rib as established for 1". BO in patt.
