Icord and Flower
You will now need the lighter weight yarn and your 4.5mm hook. The flower is called the “Bee Happy Flower" designed by Michael Sellick and permission was sought and granted to link to his pattern. Check out the pattern on his website http://www.thecrochetcrowd.com/en/crochetflowers/845-bee-happy-flowers.html, or video tutorial on YouTube - http://youtu.be/5B8q66MHV90. The icord used in the picture was made using an icord maker such as the “Embellish Knit", other brands are available. As an alternative, crochet a cord (chain stitches) to the right length. Make the icord or chain stitch cord about an inch longer than the circumference of the hat. Weave the cord behind the pairs of fpdc stitches and in front of the hdc stitches at about the fourth round up above the scalloped edge, around the hat then feed it back the other way. You should have the two lose ends together, feed them through the loop and then through the middle of the flower. You will see the flower acts like a button with the loop of the icord.
