WRIGBY WRISTERS

Got yarn begging to be knit, but can't find the right pattern? Enter the Wrigby Wrister, the quick-knit, stash-busting pattern which will work with a variety of yarn weights. It's fast and easy-to-knit. After you've knit a few, you may want to customize by adding in your favorite stitch patterns or cables. This also works well with handspun yarn.

Notes:

This pattern is based on a 2x2 ribbing. The thumb gusset is a 1 x 1 rib. Knit as long as you like along the forearm. Start the thumb gusset along the base of the thumb at the wrist. M1P - make a stitch by lifting the bar between the stitches on the right and left needles, place the stitch on the left needle, and purl it. M1R - with the left needle, lift the bar between the stitches from back to front, and knit it through the front loop. M1L- with the left needle, lift the bar between the stitches from front to back, and knit it through the back loop.

Yarn and Needle Size:

This is a ribbed pattern, so the rule of thumb is to use a needle two sizes smaller than you would typically use for nonribbed patterns in the same yarn.

Place a marker at the beginning of the round to indicate when a new row starts. Pattern Row: K2 P2 around. Repeat this pattern round until the cuff is the desired length, measuring from the base of the thumb up the forearm. Now it's time to add the Thumb Gusset. Choose a P2 pair of your ribbing approximately half-way around the wristers to add the gusset. It will start between the first and second Purl Stitch of the pair.
