Toddler Apron
A hardwearing cotton apron for busy toddlers, with a choice of apple or cherry motif.

Measurements

Stitch Key:
ch = chain dc = double crochet htr = half treble tr = treble crochet sl st = slip stitch Instructions for smaller size are given first with the larger size in brackets.
Tension:
18 stitches and 20 rows using dc and a 4mm hook. You will need: 4mm hook 2.5mm hook
For the Cherries Apron:
150g (200g) Cotton Double Knitting yarn in Red (e.g. Wendy Supreme Cotton DK). 100g Cotton Double Knitting yarn in Cream Small amount of green yarn for the cherry stalks.

For the Apple Apron:
150g (200g) Cotton Double Knitting yarn in Green 100g Cotton Double Knitting yarn in Cream Small amount of brown yarn.

Instructions
With 4mm hook, Ch33 (37). R1. Dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, Ch1, turn. (32, 38 dc). R2. Dc in each st across, ch1, turn. R3-46. As row 2. Size 2-4 only: At end of row 46, ch 13, turn. Size 4-6 only: R47-56. As row 2. At end of row 56, ch 17, turn.
All Sizes:
Row 47 (57). Dc into 2nd ch from hook, and in each of the chains. Work 1dc in each dc then ch 13 (15), turn. R48 (58). Dc into 2nd ch from hook and in each of the chs. Work 1dc in each dc across, turn. (56, 66 dcs). R49 (59). Ch1, Dc in each st across, turn. (56, 66 dcs). Size 2-4 only: R50-100. As row 49. Size 4-6 only: R60-120. As row 59.
All sizes:
Edging. Ch1, htr in each st across. Turn work 90 degrees and work 1dc in the end of each row and in every st around the entire edge of the apron. Join to ch1 st. Fasten off.
Pocket.
With Cream yarn and 4mm hook, Ch33 (36). R1. 1dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. Ch1, turn. (32 dc). R2. 1dc in each st across, ch1, turn. (32dc). R3-20. As row 2. Size 4-6 only: R21-22. As row 2.
All Sizes:
Edging.
Join main yarn. Ch1, turn. 1dc in each st across and all the way around the edge of the pocket. Join. Fasten off. Pin pocket to apron and sew in place using main yarn and sewing through the edging stitches.
Neck Strap.
R1. With cream yarn and 2.5mm hook, join to one corner of top of apron. Work 1dc in same st and 1dc in each of the next 4 sts. Ch1, turn. (5dc.) R2. 1dc in each st across, ch1, turn. (5dc). R3-65. As row 2. You may want to add or remove rows depending on the size of child. Fasten off and sew to opposite corner of apron.

Size 4-6 Only: R66-68. As row 2. Waist Ties. R1. Join cream yarn to one edge of apron. 1dc in same st, work 4 more dc along edge of work. Ch1, turn. R2. 1dc in each st across, ch1, turn. (5dc). R3-70. As row 2. Size 4-6 only: R71-75. As row 2. Fasten off.
Motifs
Cherries:
Make 2. With 2.5mm hook and red yarn, ch4. Join to make a loop. R1. Ch1, work 8dc into loop. Do not join. R2. Work 2dc into each st around. Do not join. (16dc). R3. \*Work 2dc into next st, 1dc into next st\*. Repeat this sequence around. (24dc). Work 1sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Cherry Leaves:
Make 2. With green yarn and 2.5mm hook, ch8. R1. 1dc in 2nd ch from hook. 1dc in each of the next 5 chs. 3dc into last ch. Working along opposite side of chain, work 1dc into each of the next 6 chs. Do not join. R2. Ch1, \*1dc in next dc, htr into next dc, 1tr into each of the next 3 sts, 1htr into next dc, 1dc into next dc, 1dc in next dc.\* Repeat from \* to \*. Sl st in next st.
Cherry Stalks:
With green yarn and 2.5mm hook, join to one cherry. Ch26. Join to 2nd cherry with sl st. Work 1sl st in each ch of stalk. Fasten off. Sew to pocket. Sew leaves to motif, and sew cherries to the pocket. Fasten off, sew in ends.

Apple:
With 2.5mm hook and cream yarn, ch4. Join to make a loop. R1. Ch1, work 8dc into loop. Do not join. R2. Work 2dc into each st around. Do not join. (16dc). R3. \*Work 2dc into next st, 1dc into next st\*. Repeat this sequence around. (24dc). Work 1sl st in next st. R4. 1dc in each st around. (24dc) R5. As row 3. (36dc). R6. As row 4. (36dc). R7. As row 3. (54dc). R8. With red yarn, 1dc in each st around, join with sl st.
Apple Stalk:
Join Brown yarn, ch6, 1dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch. Join. Fasten off.
Apple Leaf:
With green yarn and 2.5mm hook, ch8. R1. 1dc in 2nd ch from hook. 1dc in each of the next 5 chs. 3dc into last ch. Working along opposite side of chain, work 1dc into each of the next 6 chs. Do not join. R2. Ch1, \*1dc in next dc, htr into next dc, 1tr into each of the next 3 sts, 1htr into next dc, 1dc into next dc, 1dc in next dc.\* Repeat from \* to \*. Sl st in next st. Sew to apple.
Apple Pips:
Sew two small dashes with brown yarn. Sew apple motif to pocket. Fasten off, sew in ends.
