
Notes
This pattern is a template. You can use about any weight of yarn you want. The gauge and needle size? Not important! As long as you get a tension/fabric that you like. Saying this, you will understand that there is no given yardage. You can make it as short/long as youwish. This shawl is made top down, which mean it is started with 4 stitches that will ultimately be at the center of the wider edge (so no, you're not casting on hundreds of stitches!).
Material
Worsted weight yarn or any other yarn that gives gauge (or that you want to use regardless of gauge) 16" circular needle Us # 7 (4.5 mm) or any size required to obtain gauge/desired tension Other : stitch marker

Setting up
The number between brackets is your stitch count. Row 1: Cast on 4 sts. (4) Row 2: K2, YO, K2. (5) Row 3: K2, YO, P1, K2. (6) Row 4: K1, KFB, YO, K4. (8) Row 5: K1, KFB, YO, P3, K3. (10) Row 6: K2, KFB, YO, K7. (12) Row 7: K2, KFB, YO,P5, K4. (14) On wrong side (odd numbered rows), be sure to make a yarn over AND switch from knit to purl. Making your YO might feel like you just switched to purl. To be sure you did it right, check your stitch count.
Setting up borders' stitch markers
Row 8: K4, PM, YO, K10. (15) Row 9: K4, PM, YO, P7, sm, K4. (16)
Setting up center increases
Row 10: K4, Sm, YO, K3, YO, PM, K1, PM, YO, K4, YO, Sm, K4. (20) Row 11: K4, sm, P5, sm, P1, sm, P5, sm, K4. (20)
Body
Row 1: K4, sm, YO, K till 1st central st marker, YO, sm, K1, sm, YO, Ktillast st marker, YO, sm, K4. Row 2: K4, sm, P, slipping the 2 central st markers as they come, till last st marker, sm, K4. Repeat these 2 rows until the spine (central stitch height) measures 5 in.
Striped body
You will be repeating the 2 body rows while alternating colours. Don't cut yarn every rows, just carry it row after row on your right. is the first colour you used while you started the shawl.Thus, C2 is your second colo Work 2 rows of c2.

Work 2 rows of C1. Work 4 rows of c2. Work 4 rows of C1. Work 6 rows of C2. Work 6 rows of C1. Repeat these 24 rows until desired height.
Garter stitch border
Starting with C2. Row 1: K4, sm, YO, K till 1st central st marker, YO, sm, K1, sm, YO, Ktillast st marker, YO, sm, K4. Row 2: K4, sm, K till 1st central st marker, sm, P1, sm, K till last st marker, sm, K4. Repeat 2 times these 2 rows with C1 (4 rows). Work 1 more time the 2 rows with C2. (2 rows) Loosely bind off with C2. Block your shawl and weave in ends.
