This stole was made using size 3.5 mm (US 4) needles and one skein of Madame Wombat hand-painted lace yarn (885m/ 9og). If you knit/loosely, you might want to go down a size or two as there is very little yarn left at the end. First small side (bottom border) Cast on 14 stitches. You might wish to use a provisional cast on as you will need to pick up these stitches later. Purl a row. Begin with row 3 on the chart. Once the chart is completed, begin the chart again at row 5 for foilowing motifs (chart repeats). 7 Only the odd rows are charted. All the even rows are purled. The number on the right side of the chart = the row number. The number on the left = the number of stitches contained in that row. Knit the chart repeat 1o times, then go on to make the'corner turn.

α = Wrapped Stitch: Slip the left stitch to the right without knitting it, pass the yarn in front of the work, slip the stitch from the right to the left needle, turn the work, purl the remaining stitches or pass the yarn behind and knit the row backwards. β = Make a yarnover while slipping the first stitch without knitting it, then taking the wrapped stitch and the yarn that is wrapped around it, knit the two together. Pass the first stitch over the second. Work the return row without knitting the firs stitch (yo) Y: Knit the stitch and the wrap at the same time.
