Difficulty: Intermediate Needles: 4 mm circ ndls, 4mm crochet hook Yarn weight: DK Sizes: Adult one size. After making a jumper for a friend, I had more leftover yarn than I expected, so I decided to make her some matching accessories to go with it. She lives in London and loves to wander through Hyde Park in the autumn and delight in the simple wonders of life, so I wanted to design something sweet and poetic for those chilly days. The result is this set of 3 accessories: a cowl that tranforms into a hat at the pullof a pompom, a pair of fingerless mits and an ear-warming headband with a crocheted flower. Perfect for using up lefover yarn, and great for practicing fairisle colour work on a smaller object before staring that jumper you keep meaning to make! Tips & NOTES
Knitting fair-isle is very much a question of tension. The pattern strips need to be quite elastic to ensure a good fit. If you tend to knit tightly, you can knit this part in the col A in St st and embroider the pattern on after finishing. Alternatively, you can switch to size 4.5 mm needles for this section. These patterns use circular needles to knit in the round. If you don't have the correct length of circular needles, you can use the Magic Loop technique or use double pointed needles by spreading out the stitches over several needles. If you're using leffover yarn and want to ensure that both mits are the same length, knit them both at the same time on the same cable needle using the Magic Loop technique and dividing your yarn into 2 equal balls before you start. Using col B, backstitch sides together Secure and weave in all yarn ends.
