A wee bit knitty pattern by: Lena Gjerald http://badegakk.woolspire.no I wanted to make a sock pattern that was so easy that people didn't have to pay too much attention to what they were knitting. I call patterns like that "brain dead", so the name of this pattern was kind of a given. The pattern is easily divided by 2. So it should be no problem to change up the yarn weight, sock size or needle size if you know your "numbers". The pattern is written for a medium woman's foot and for fingering weight yarn and 2.5mm needles, and has a nice snug fit around the leg

ABBREVIATIONS:

k: knit p: purl ssk: (slip slip knit): Slip the next 2 stitches, one at a time as if to knit from the left needle onto the right needle. Insert the left needle into the fronts of these two stitches and knit them together. k2tog: Knit 2sts together p2tog: Purl 2sts together ws: Wrong side rs: Right side

CUFF:

CO: 64 stitches with fingering weight yarn. Knit rib: K1, pl throughout the round. Knit the rib a total of 2O rounds. Then start knitting on the leg. LEG: 1. p64 2. p64 3. \*k1, p1\* Repeat from \* to \* throughout the round. 4. \*kl, p1\* Repeat from \* to \* throughout the round. 5. k64 6. k64 7. \*k1, p1\* Repeat from \* to \* throughout the round. 8. \*k1, p1\* Repeat from \* to \* throughout the round. 9. k64 10. k64 11. \*k1, p1\* Repeat from \* to \* throughout the round. 12.: \*kl, p1\* Repeat from \* to \* throughout the round. Rep. rounds 1 - 12 as many times as you want, but stop knitting the leg after round 4. Then start knitting the heelflap over the next 31 sts. (The heel flap is knitted back and forth) HEEL: 1. (rs): k31 2. (ws): p31 3. (rs): k1, \*p1, k1\* 4. (ws): pl, \*k1, p1\* 5. (rs): k31 6. (ws):p31 7. (rs): k1, \*p1l, k1\* 8. (ws): pl, \*kl, p1\* 9. (rs): k31 10. (ws): p31 11. (rs): k1, \*p1, k1\* 12. (ws): pl,\*k1, p1\* 13. (rs): k31 14. (ws): p31 Now the heel flap is done, and you should start turning the heel. Knit as follows: K2O, ssk. Turn work. \*Slip a stitch as if you were going to purl it, (just make sure the thread is at the front of the left needle while you are doing it. It makes a nice edge on your right side.) P9, P2tog. Turn work. Slip a stitch as if you were going to knit it, K9, ssk. Turn work.\* Repeat from \* to \* until there is only the middle 11 stitches left on your needle. With the right side facing you, knit the 1l1 stitches on to two needles so you have got 6 sts on the right hand needle, and 5 sts on the left hand needle.

FOOT:

Pick up 14 stitches on the side of the heel, knit round 5 of the pattern, pick up 14 stitches on the other side and knit the last 6 stitches. Total amount of stitches on the foot = 72 sts. Note: The start of the round will now be at the back of the heel. Continue knitting the established pattern on the top part of the sock (needle 3 and 4) while you decrease the number of heel sts to make a gusset as follows:

WEDGE HEEL:

(Remember that the back of the heel is the starting point of your rounds. So needle number 1 will be the one that is at your left when the heel is facing you. And the following needles will be needle 2, 3 and 4.) Divide the stitches onto the four needles like this: Needle 1: 19 sts, Needle 2: 16 sts Needle 3: 17sts Needle 4: 20 sts Decrease round: Needle 1: Knit until you have got 3 sts left on the needle, k2tog, k1 Needle 2: k16 Needle 3: k15 Needle 4: kl, slip 1stitch, knit 1 sts, pass the slipped stitch over the stitch you just knitted. Knit the rest of the stitches on the needle. Then knit two rounds without any decreases. Repeat these 3 rounds until you've got 15sts on needle 1, 16sts on needle 2, 17 sts on needle 3 and 16 sts on needle 4. (=64 sts in total). Keep knitting the 12 rounds of pattern until the foot is long enough. Then start the toe decreases. The toe is about 2 cm long.

TOE:

1. \*k6, k2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout the round ( =56 stitches) 2. k56 3. \*k5, k2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout the round (= 48 stitches) 4. k48 5. \*k4, K2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout round (= 40 stitches) 6. k40 7. \*k3, k2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout the round ( =32 stitches) 8. k32 9. \*k2, k2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout the round ( =24 stitches) 10. k24 11. \*k1, k2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout the round ( = 16 stitches) 12. k16 13. \*k2tog\* Repeat between \* and \* throughout the round ( =8 stitches) Cut the yarn and pull the yarn through the 8 stitches on your needles and weave in all the ends. Knit one more sock!
