Kfb: knit into front and back of stitch k: knit p: purl pm: place marker yo: yarn over m1: make one stitch using the lifted loop technique k2tog: knit two together ssk: slip 2 sts as if to knit, knit together through back of loop Using circular cast on (or method of your choice), CAST ON 5 stitches and join in the round. Row 1: kfb every stitch (10 sts) Row 2: \*kfb, ${\bf k}^{*}\,{\sf5}$ times (15 sts) Row 3: purl around, separating stitches onto 5 dpns (3 sts per needle), or pm every 3 sts, using a unique marker for beg of round (15 sts) Row 4: $^{*}\mathrm{k}$ yo, k, yo, $\mathbf{k}^{*}\,5$ times (25 sts) Row 5 and all odd rows: purl Row 6: \*k2tog, m1, yo, k, yo, m1, $\mathbf{S}\mathbf{S}\mathbf{k}^{*}$ (35 sts) Row 8: \*k2tog, m1, $k,$ yo, $k_{:}$ yo, $k_{*}$ m1, ssk\* (45 sts) This central grouping (in italics) will be repeated in the center of every even-row repeat. Row 10: $\ast\mathtt{k}2$ tog, k1, ml, $k,$ yo, $k,$ yo, k, m1, kl, ssk\* (55 sts) Row 12: $\ast\mathtt{k}2$ tog, m1, k2, $k,$ yo, $k,$ yo, k, k2, ml, ssk\* (65 sts) Row 14: $\ast\mathtt{k}2$ tog, k3, m1, k, yo, k, yo , k, m1, k3, ssk\* (75 sts) Row 16: $\ast\mathtt{k}2$ tog, m1, k4, k, yo, k, yo , k, k4, m1, ssk\* (85 sts) Row 18: \*k2tog, k5, m1, k, yo, k, yo , k, m1, k5, ssk\* (95 sts) Row 20: \*k2tog, m1, k6, $k,$ yo, $k,$ yo , k, k6, m1, ssk\* (105 sts) By now the pattern should be obvious: in addition to the two additional stitches created by the yo's in the central motif, two additional stitches are created for each repeat. They alternate between being created at the edges of the repeat (Type A row: immediately after the k2tog or before the ssk), and the center of the repeat (Type B row: immediately before and after the $k,$ yO, $k,$ yO, $k$ center rib). I found the color stripes a very useful tool to keep track of where I was in the pattern; for my blanket I did 12 rows (6 knit and 6 purl) per color. Knit rows 1, 3, and 5 of each color were Type A, and knit rows 2, 4, and 6 of each color were Type B. Continue in patern untilblanket is desired size, ending on purl row. Cast off in pattern (including yo's and m1's). Finishing: weave in ends, block. version 1.0 9/12/2008 This pattern is copyright protected. Stephanie L.
