
Marconi Beach Bookmark Designed by Beverly Army Williams This dainty bookmark is a perfect first project to try out a hairpin lace loom. You only need a little bit of yarn, so it's great for leftovers! Approximately 10" x 2" without tassel Supplies needed: \~75 yards fingering Hairpin Lace loom, set at 1.5" Size O crochet hook 10"x 5" piece of cardboard Note: Hairpin lace patterns may measure loops differently. In this pattern, a loop count given indicates the loops on one post. Be sure to measure the same number of loops on each of the posts.
Directions:
Leaving a long (around 10") tail, cast on with yarn (video tutorial may be found here: http: //www.pomogolightly.com/hairpin-lace-tutorials/). Using sc as center stitch, make strip with 60 loops on each side. When strip is completed, tie off through final sc stitch. Remove strip from loom. SC along each long edge, leaving long tail at end (video tutorial may be found here: http: / /www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCokUI UPtk). SC across short edges. Weave in all ends except cast-on tail Chain tail for 7". Pass remaining yarn through final chain, but do not cut
Tassel
Cut 12" piece of yarn and put aside. Wrap yarn 13 times around 10" edge of cardboard template. Holding working end of yarn taut, cut at bottom of template. Note: For thicker tassel, add more wraps; for thinner tassel, reduce number of wraps. Pass chained tail under tassel yarn at one end of template. Tie tightly. Cut yarn at opposite end of template. Remove template, and wrap 12" piece of reserved yarn about 1" from top end of tassel to bind it together. Knot and bury ends. Trim bottom of tassel as desired. Steam block lightly and settle in with a good book!
