The socks can be knitted from the top or from the toes. The heel is added after the rest of the sock is knitted. Alterations in width can be done at the sides by increasing or decreasing the amount of stitches. Any other alteration to the patterns means recharting the heel pattern. Transfer stitches back on needle and knit pattern of row 43 as charted. Continue knitting the pattern as charted. Cast off loosly with a larger needle to get enough stretch. From the top : Cast-on 52 st Knit the pattern as charted. Row 47 : Knit 25 st on a piece of scrap yarn where indicated in the pattern. Transfer stitches back on needle and knit pattern of row 47 as charted. Continue knitting the pattern as charted. Decrease the toe as the heels. Finish with the Kitchener stitch or any preferred method.
THE HEEL Pick up the stitches on both side of the scrap yarn. Pick up 3 stitches on each side. Knit the pattern as charted. Decrease as charted. Finish with the Kitchener stitch or by any other prefered method.
